Some nice colours from the layer pen

First chicks out of the incubator for the season.
Of course a bantam pullet hid her nest in the feed shed and hatched 5 chicks last week (after starting with 17 eggs which she couldn’t cover properly).

An interesting day in the SDW pen. 3 eggs with extra calcium deposited over the shell which means some sort of stress as far as I know.
One looks pink, one white and one 2 toned until i moistened a strip.
I tried different backgrounds to get the truest to life colours to show. The white egg carton worked best but the green bucket and grass made them look very washed out.

I supplied a few fertile eggs to a neighbour recently and he was rapt to hatch some chicks so he turned up with this as a thank you gift.

I have 5 pens of partridge Welsummers this season.

This sunny warmer weather and lengthening days is encouraging the girls to lay.
This is today’s lot from the partridge Welsummers, Anconas and Cream Legbars.
I’m very happy with the colour and size in the partridge girls’s eggs 😍

Found this Welsummer pullet egg today in the Silver Duckwing pen. Pretty happy with the colour and this photo is very close to the actual shade.
