TLDR; Drink beer - Do it for science.

Story time with the Brewer;

Venus | Saccharomyces cerevisiae

The real brains behind the operation.

As the saying goes, brewers don’t make beer, they just make yeast food. At Bendigo Brewing, we’re fortunate to have our very own house yeast, Venus, to feed. She includes at least two genetically distinct yeast strains, of southern and northern English origin. While many older and larger breweries have house yeast strains, some of them hundreds of years old, it’s relatively uncommon at small, recently established breweries like ours.

Venus requires extra care and some special equipment and processes to keep her fit and healthy: after checking her vital signs under the microscope, fermentations begin in a shallow, open fermenter. As the cells consume oxygen, sugars, and nutrients, a new generation of Venus buds from the mother cells, rising to the surface of the beer on day three of fermentation. Once the fresh yeast has been scooped off to be stored until the next brew, the beer is transferred into a closed tank for finishing.

Venus is 106 generations old, and her signature flavours of stone fruit (peach/plums) and citrus in pale beers, to red plum and fruit mince in dark beers, remain a common thread in our range of ales.

Drink beer, do it for science.

🚨LIMITED RELEASE🚨

Welcome to 'Beyond the Coast'

Beyond the Coast is our 8.5%, copper-coloured Double IPA.

It’s big, punchy, and made with all-Australian ingredients; leaning heavily into a citrus and pine hop profile with lashings of berry and tropical fruits. A robust bitterness and elegant, bready malt background provide the scaffolding for big hop flavour and high ABV.

Beyond the Coast pours copper with a slight hop haze and off-white foam. Hoppy pine, grapefruit, orange zest and raspberry dominate the nose, opening up into more pine, mandarin, grapefruit, spice, sweet malts and alcohol on the first taste. A firm bitterness builds mid-palate and lingers pleasantly

Whether you're in the mountains or by the sea, Beyond the Coast can satisfy in all environments.

Cans available in our Farmer Lane taproom from Thursday.
