This year for me would have to go down as one of the most hardest and challenging, most emotional year I have experienced so far in my life. On top of it all losing my bees made it all hit so much harder. I constantly think about my journey with them, the spring I would have just entered with them and how our journey together would grow. I would just like to thank every single person for reaching out either by Facebook, through private messaging and phone calls. It truly is beautiful to see how many people see and feel just how important those little creatures are. The last few days we have extracted the last remaining bits of honey the bees left for us and cleaned our equipment in the hopes of finding a new swarm this spring to continue our journey. Please continue to plant bee attracting plants and try to think about the chemicals we spray that will impact not only our beautiful bees but other critters that are also playing their role within our ecosystem. šŸšŸšŸ

Massive thank you to Waggle & Forage Beekeeping Supplies for supplying us with Varroa treatment kit for our future bee hives. The ladies at Waggle and Forage have been such an amazing resource for us both, teaching and supporting us along the way. If anyone ever needs anything for their bee journey I can not recommend those guys enough!

UPDATE….

Thank you to everyone who has reached out over the last couple of days. The bees were tested for varroa mite and although they did have varroa mite I don’t believe this is what killed off the hive. I do believe that like many other people across the country that what has killed the bees is poisoning. Without further testing tho I cannot be entirely sure of this. As a country we need to fight for the banning the use of certain sprays like many other countries in the world have. It’s really saddened us on hearing the loss of so many hives in such a very short period of time. Now is the time to step up and really start protecting our bees šŸ

The past 48 hours I’ve just felt so angry, so devastated, so lost, sad and back to complete anger! Losing my bees impacts me (us all) so greatly in so many ways. My passion in working with the bees, the joy it brings me watching them buzz around the garden, the bees pollinating my trees, plants, veggies, producing honey for my family and friends and providing me with a small income…. Now all gone!! Not only my bees, not only my mothers bees but upon a walk of my entire property today and going to the areas the bees love the most… NOTHING!!! Not 1 single bee on my entire property!! I am in such heartbreak that I feel like I’ve lost someone so near and dear to me. Just bees you may say… The world cannot survive without bees. Our food production is at such risk without the bees. I don’t advocate or get on my high horse about a lot of things but this I am! This impacts more than just a beehive dying. Please for the love of all things we need to do what we can to save our bees šŸ šŸ šŸ Save the Bees Australia

Absolute devastation today when my mum messaged me to say both her bee hives had died. Inspection of mine and both mine hives have died also! Unsure if it’s varroa mite at this stage but will know more upon inspection… what a horrendous thing to happen to our poor little mates. A wild hive in my backyard is also missing and assumed dead. No bees sited on the property today so I can only imagine it’s gone through my whole area.

First thing this morning I went straight to the far back paddock to bring the mob back closer to the house. After being down there for a few days I noticed that another lamb had been born overnight. Fast forward a few hours later dad and I moved the sheep into the run to separate a few of them. I could hear this distant lamb but also wasn’t sure if it was the one born this morning. So I said to dad let’s go for a walk to the back paddock because I believed a lamb may have been left behind. As we get up there we find this little lamb laying on the fence line all alone. Superman dad super happy with his save for the day! So another 2 twin boys born šŸ„°ā¤ļøšŸ˜˜

The boys are feeling good today!! And mum has finally stopped rejecting one and is feeding them both and stopped head butting them away. A night in lockdown definitely smartened her right up

Long time between posts!!

Lamb twins born on the farm earlier this morning. I’ve spent the day watching mum alternate between abandoning one, forgetting which one she’s abandoned so changes to the other one. She’s been held into a much smaller pen with them and hopefully bonds with them both. One of the twins is a lot smaller and quite frail so hoping he makes it through the next 24-48 hour period and constant checks to make sure she hasn’t harmed either of them.
