He might not know his daddy, but he's now got a name - meet Ganado Xavier 😍

He's a perfect 35kg, out of Dehavalyn Surprise and sired by either Ganado Venom or Jomal Glen White Knight.

Either way it's a win for me - if sire verification comes back as Venom then this calf marks the first of his in the country, and a very exciting prospect for both his owner in Australia (Glenrock Greys) and the folks with his international semen rights (SeeWhy Murray Greys).

If it comes back as White Knight, then I will have created my second ever calf through successful insemination 🙌 Not to say I haven't AI'd more cows, I'm just not that good at it 😆

Looks like I’ve got a budding photographer on my hands! 📸

Over the past week, Phoenix has developed a real love for taking photos and videos. While 678 selfies of the top of his head can get a little repetitive, I absolutely love seeing the world through his eyes.

So we found him an old digital camera of his own, and ever since he’s been busy documenting his daily adventures.

This morning, he hit the jackpot on our rounds when Evelyn wandered over for a closer look at the bike.

How gorgeous is this little moment? The first photo is the one I captured of Evelyn checking things out, and the second is the photo Phoenix took of her.

I think he might have a pretty good eye for it already. ❤️📷🐄

About bloody time! 😅

Surprise kept us waiting until she was six days overdue, but when the moment arrived, she got the job done with remarkable efficiency, safely delivering her first calf — a bull! 💙

I'm especially excited about this young cow. She carries the prefix of the Dehavalyn program, a stud with a long-standing obsession for udder quality and maternal function, and I'm thrilled to be seeing the results of their decades of hard work in my own herd.

Watch along for the second instalment of halter training Ganado Workhorse.

In this session there is a brief review of what he learnt during his first training day, followed by his first tie up.

He was very calm through the whole process so the next lesson will be his first bath 🚿

It's a good day for ducks... Even the aquatically challenged ones🤣

So far this month we've had a beautiful 30mm of rain. - - The oats have germinated, the paddocks are soggy.
- The newest calves are ducking for cover under the trees and playing in the bursts of sunshine 🌞
- Victor has gotten to work mating the cows, yesterday he had two girlfriends so we're right on track for Autumn calving next year 🐣
- Surprise still hasn't calved (due date on Tuesday if my dates were correct) but I'm keeping a close eye ...
- Tomorrow we're butchering a steer that was dispatched last week. More on that process later for those interested in knowing more about home kills.

We're lucky enough to be sitting under another rain band now that's dropped 13mm and not looking like easing up anytime soon. 🌧️

Hope everyone is having a good Thursday, and getting some rain to those who need it.
