Young Guns Of Wine - Australia's Top Tempranillo

Really chuffed to be included in Australia's Best Tempranillo with our recently released Shut The Gate 2024 For Love Tempranillo Hilltops.

Spain chose this wine for her top six wines from the tasting, noting “the nose immediately hits you with the smell of fresh potting soil and coconut fibre, in all the best ways possible! Hints of rose petals and pink lavender just really build on the earthy aromatics that one straight away noticeable. There’s also a hint of ripe blueberry and freshly grated cinnamon on the nose as well that hints that the refresher fruit on the palate. An earthy, savoury drive on the palate with hints of black sesame, toasted star anise and walnut creating the structure and drive in the glass, and swells of blood orange and red plum fleshing everything out. An easy sipper in my opinion, although heaps of discover and unravel if you want, but whack some pork in front of this bad boy, or even something more gamey like kangaroo or venison, and you are in for an absolute treat.”

Our Long Weekend opening hours are;

Saturday 6th June 10am - 6pm
Sunday 7th June 10am - 5pm
Monday 8th June 10am - 5pm

Shut The Gate Wine Tastings with the Winemaker are available this Saturday and Sunday. 10am - 4pm. Walk ins are welcome for small groups or book for large groups on 0264564601.

GOOD FRIDAY Please be aware that The Little Grocer & Shut The Gate Wines Cellar Door Berridale can't sell takeaway liquor or conduct wine tastings on Good Friday. We will be offering wine by the glass with food in the garden and takeaway Providore.
We will be open until 6pm today Thursday if you need to top up for the weekend.

Easter Saturday 10am - 5pm
Easter Sunday 10am - 5pm
Easter Monday 10am - 5pm

"This wine appeared in the top six wines on the day for Thomson and O’Kane. Thomson described “sexy aromatics – there’s so much going on here, with betel leaf, ginger spice and ginger flower all thrown in to the mix. Gorgeous balance and length, with a nice chalky edge and depth of texture as it leads to an impressively long finish. There’s an edge of bitterness here which is really important in the wine, giving dimension and huge value to the overall complexity.” O’Kane noted “who knew that lemons and limes could have such a spectrum of flavour and texture? Here we have lemon sherbet and starfruit – it’s not quite tropical, but this is as much describing this wine’s texture as its flavour. The palate has a lusciousness – it’s textural and tasty. It dances on the palate, and it’s exciting. You could easily guzzle this or pair it with food – the choice is yours!”
