Lately at the farm 🌿

It has been all systems go at Moraea Farm.

The restaurant renovations are in full swing, taking shape room by room as we get closer to opening the doors. The winter garden is giving generously right now, and we’ve been harvesting it daily for the kitchen. We welcomed the teams from Sunrise and the Sydney Morning Herald, who came to see what we’re building out here. And in between it all, the animals have kept us honest, fed and cared for, rain or shine.

This is the part nobody usually sees. The busy, unglamorous stuff that happens before a single plate goes out.

We can’t wait to show you what it’s all becoming.

Some beautiful drone footage of our thriving winter garden via the master

We’re spending just as much time with our hands in the soil as we are the kitchen these days.

Can’t wait to show you all the flavours that our veggies are producing this season🫜

The story of Sara begins in a Swedish garden.

At Hammarby, the estate outside Uppsala, Sara Moraea kept the grounds with her own hands. While her husband Carl Linnaeus named the natural world, Sara grew it. The kitchen gardens, the berry harvests, the root cellars stocked against the long Swedish winter. Hers was a practical botany, learned through the soil rather than the page.

She believed in self-sufficiency, in feeding a household from the land it stood on. And when Carl died, it was Sara who kept Hammarby, tending the estate and its collections for nearly thirty years.

Sara Dining honours this great Swedish cultivator Sara Moraea and her instinct that growing things is its own kind of knowledge.

Sara opens at Moraea Farm in Berry on 1 August.

“Open a farm to table restaurant” they said.
“It’ll be easy” they said.

Turns out “farm to table” involves a fair bit between the farm and the table.

We’re getting there. Opening 1 August. Come watch the rest unfold.

We think the best dishes start long before they enter the kitchen. They start in the soil, in the early mornings, in the hands of the people who grow with care.

Swipe through to meet the growers behind Sara. These are the farmers, foragers and producers we lean on, the ones working just down the road from us, season after season.

Every plate we send out carries their work. The vegetables pulled fresh that morning. The fruit picked at its peak. The kind of produce you can only get when you know exactly where it came from and who grew it.

This is what local actually means to us. Not a buzzword. A relationship. A handshake. A shared belief that food tastes better when it travels less and means more.

Get to know what you’ll be tasting soon.

Who was Sara Moraea? The namesake of our restaurant and working farm within the

A botanist’s daughter who became a famous botanist’s wife, Sara Moraea’s story has always been her own.

While her husband Carl Linnaeus spent his life naming the natural world, she spent hers growing it. She understood the land through her hands. Growing, harvesting and cultivating it long before her husband’s name became famous.

Swipe on to see how her maiden name inspired our working farm, and how her given name is now living on in the land, the restaurant and everything that comes out of the kitchen.
