The Schrapel family first planted vines in 1852. More than a century later, fifth generation descendants, brothers Geoff and Robert Schrapel, established Bethany Wines. Today, Bethany Wines is run by fifth and sixth generations of the Schrapel Family. The vines’ life cycle continues in much the same way as it always has – with minimal intervention, from vine to glass, to produce the best possible wines that are a true reflection of their natural terroir.

Something you may not know about Bethany Wines….

Beside winemaking, we also make our own delicious quince jam picked from 100 year old + trees grown on the estate.
The name of the garden where these and other fruit trees grow is called the Gherkin Garden after the ‘gherkins’ traditionally grown on the property.

This quince jam is served as part of the picnic platters available in Cellar Door and is available to purchase to take home.

Why not come and taste for yourself😋

In operation for 45 vintages at Bethany, the weighbridge was built by Henry Binney Hawke of Kapunda. Today weighing the Homestead Shiraz.
A lasting legacy.

The Kapunda Historical Society writes:
In 1857 Henry Binney Hawke established H.B. Hawke and Co Engineering and created the first hydraulic car hoist; the Broadcast Seed Sewing Machine; and the Weighbridge. For 126 years, until the company closed in 1983, it was an integral part of the region's survival and success.

Views of Vintage
Vintage 26 has been one of contrasts, starting about 3 weeks later than the norm, some rain, fortunately not too much rain and now mild autumn days and cooler nights. Today was the last pick of the Shiraz, with Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc next on the picking list.
