It’s that time of year again 🥵🔥

Everything has dried off out at the farm, and you may start to notice a change in the colour of our egg yolks.
The colour of our yolks naturally changes with the seasons and is largely influenced by what our girls are eating. 🌱🐔

In spring, our hens have plenty of lush green grass, plants and bugs to supplement their diet, which can give their yolks that beautiful deep golden colour. But as the paddocks dry off, there’s less fresh greenery and fewer bugs around, so our yolks can naturally become a little paler.

It’s simply a reflection of what’s growing (or not growing!) on the land. 🌾

And don’t worry, a paler yolk doesn’t mean a lower-quality egg. Yolk colour is primarily influenced by the pigments in the hens’ diet and isn’t a reliable indicator of the freshness, quality or overall nutritional value of the egg.

So next time you crack one of our eggs and notice the yolk looks a little different, know that it’s just Mother Nature doing her thing. 💛
One of the things we love most about farming is that our eggs change with the seasons, because they truly come from the land, and our girls are living with the seasons too. 🐔🌾

Our girls love to be spoilt and we love spoiling them! We recently started fermenting a seed/grain blend for them and to say they love it would be an understatement 😂

While there’s been a lot of focus on bird flu lately, we’ve been keeping a close eye on a different pest — feral pigs 🐷
Feral pigs aren’t just a danger to our chickens; they can also carry and spread diseases and parasites that pose a serious biosecurity risk to poultry. So, when it comes to keeping our girls safe, we decided to bite the bullet and install dog-proof fencing around the entire paddock.

A huge shout-out to my dad for putting in all the hard work and installing the new fencing! 👏

And, in true supervisor fashion, I arrived right when all the hard work was finished… just in time to enjoy some of Matts fresh damper. 😂😂
Keeping the girls safe, one fence (and one loaf of damper) at a time! ❤️🐔

For those that love to dine at Cousins On William, you can now get the same tasty eggs they use in their food to take home! Love local businesses choosing to actively support small family farms 💕 🍳 Their fresh juices are also delicious! So I’d highly recommend grabbing one as well 🤤

We've always been about supporting local and teaming up with locals to bring the joy! In August we are teaming up with Blue Sky Heritage Eggs to bring to you all "The Great Egg Hatch of 2026".

On Tuesday 4th August, Miss Jemma will bring in her incubator and 24 eggs for us to observe 😍 Families are encouraged to sponsor an egg ($10 an egg) and the first egg to hatch will get a $50 voucher for the cafe. There might even be a lucky prize for the lucky last to hatch 😜
So, pop in next week to choose an egg, and may the best egg win! haha
