This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. Many old breeds have been altered from conformation and attributes that led to their development for a particular purpose. I see that, across all heavy breeds, breeders are selecting for "sporting" types to the detriment of breed type and genetic diversity. There are so many Cobs about nowadays that would look totally generic if you were to remove the hair and feather. The bones are lighter, the necks and backs longer, and they no longer, in many cases, have the substance that made them such powerful horses.
Reflections on what genetic studies of modern horses has told us and exploring the many ways in which we got to be where we are today.______________________...
