"Exquisite Expressions of Volnay" - Neal Martin 🌹

Thibaud Clerget, please stand and take a bow! The Domaine Y Clerget 2024 w**es are now here and what a set of w**es they are. Even in such a devasting vintage, Thibaud was able to craft stylish and pure Pinot Noirs with the 30% of crops he had remaining at harvest.
There is no doubt about it, his ability to adapt to the climatic conditions every vintage shines a light on his modern approach to w**emaking, with all his intentions remaining focused on the quality of the w**es and not the quantity. Bravo Clerget.

From the makers of Lafleur, I now bring you...Les Pensées & Champs Libres

💎Journey beyond the Grand Vin of Lafleur and dig into the clay soils of Les Pensées. The Les Pensées cuvee was created in 1987 with great evolution in 2001, as the Société Agricole de Lafleur switched from picking the young vines of Lafleur, to solely picking the clay based vines for this cuvee. The vines which have been specified for Les Pensées, all sit upon a clay-heavy vein wedged into the heart of the Lafleur vineyard and with each vintage, it has become apparent that Les Pensées has now been established as its own Cru and not simply a second vin.

Now the partner in crime to Les Pensées is that of Les Champs Libres, a pure Sauvignon Blanc cuvee blended from four plots upon clay-limestone soils. Starting out as the top fruits of the Grand Village parcels, it became obvious to the Société Agricole de Lafleur that Sauvignon Blanc thrives in this region under the right hands. Therefore, with new plantings from Sancerre cuttings, the Champs Libres is a combination of the plots; A Louima, Mathilde, Leonard and Les Acacias, all upon the clay-limestone plateau of Ambeau. A plateau that gives energy and density to the fruits every vintage.

Sixteen w**es. Eight Burgundies running from the CĂ´te Chalonnaise through the CĂ´te de Beaune and into the CĂ´te de Nuits. Eight from Piedmont, six of them single-cru Barolos, alongside a Barbaresco from the heart of Martinenga.

The Burgundies will be presented by myself, Alex Rougeot, as we explore the domaines of Corcia, Cassiopee, Yvon Clerget, Hudelot-Noellat, Rougeot, Marc Roy, and Edouard Confuron.

The Piedmontese w**es will be presented by David Ridge, alongside Marcell Kustos, exploring the likes of Marchesi di Gresy, Sordo, Barale Castellero, and Orlando Rocca Bussia.

This is our second vintage offering the cuvees of Domaine Gauby, a truly historic institution continuing to outdo themselves.

Out of the 45 hectares of vines, comes a beautiful selection of 7 w**es which are ready for you to enjoy. You will find the Calcinaires is the heart of the domaine, and the history shines through in the Vieilles Vignes duo. The three stand alone cuvees then represent different characters of Roussillon; Jasse a Muscat Blanc Ă  Petit Grains, Coume Gineste a Grenache blend of blanc and gris, and Muntada as a premium red blend...

I don’t think you have fully experienced Gamay if you haven’t tried the terroir of Auvergne in France. Think basalt soils, ancient volcanic chain in the middle of France. Altitude, slope 🏔️, hot days, cold nights during the growing season.

2023 De Cendre et D’Âme from Henri Chauvet is a masterpiece. Gamay and a hint of Pinot. So playful with a smokey edge to the fruit, also blueberry and great acid, complex fruit profile, earthy and fruity all together.

Perhaps that’s all we seek in a great bottle of w**e, full of joy and pleasure. Henri Chauvet

Does this man ever faulter? Edouard Confuron has come through with another powerful vintage under his own label during a tough growing season.

Not only has he succeeded in producing a fine set of w**es, but in 2024 he began conversion to Organic viticultural practices, to be fully certified as of the 2026 vintage. I am not sure how else to say it, but Edouard is a true rising star in the world of Burgundy vignerons and the sentiment is echoed throughout the critic world and among those enjoying a bottle of his w**e at home.
