Why are they covered in hay? Because Elsa, Wiz and their mum Iris still stay in at night on a bed of hay to keep warm and safe. They aren’t big enough to protect themselves at night from predators yet.
Volume sheep farmers may allow their ewes to birth in the paddocks or leave young lambs out, but many are lost to foxes and other opportunists.
As a therapy care farm this is not helpful to our trauma informed care. Survival and death at the farm is inevitable, and can be an impetus for exploration in the therapy process. But neglect of the vulnerable, does not build trust or create a safe place for navigating feelings around trauma.
