Also introducing a new extremely rare breed or two to Summit Hill Poultry …… watch this space!! All dependant on hatch rate of purchased eggs no counting chicks or success rate before they hatch and grow up -101 of chicken breeding) Happy Anniversary to me!

Congratulations to new owner of these 13 little Dorking darlings! Despite the challenges with the heat and a broken air conditioner and sadly a few chicks that obviously died in their eggs due to heat variances on the 40deg days… I managed to nurture some perfectly fluffy little chicks to hatch for my final hatch of the season… At a guess I think I’ve hatched well over 500 female dorkings this season (I’m only a small time breeder, I breed for a hobby I just LOVE the Dorking chicken and its quirky nature, I’m passionate about keeping the Dorking chicken a viable breed and not let it become extinct due to bad or low quality breeding. I breed for good quality healthly chicks not necessarily numbers, not every egg goes into the incubators) Dorkings are such a wonderful breed—the new owners are in for such a treat as they grow into stunning Silver Grey Dorking hens!

Last we night recieved an order for 15 light Sussex day old chicks.. I have ceased breeding for the season - until it cools down a bit BUT for special orders of Dorkings or Sussex I’m happy to bring the incubator in out of the hatchery and run it in the house where it’s cooler! My air conditioner has decided to go caput in the hatchery right on these really hot days, hence the ceasing breeding now for the season. It’s just too hard to keep the incubators (even though I have good cabinet incubators) a steady temperature in order to grow healthy chicks without the air conditioner keeping room temp at 23-25deg. So don’t be afraid to get in touch if you want some chicks hatched on special order 😊🐣❤️

Thanks for all the bags of chook food today.. great local service 😊 my last batch of chicks (25 chicks) for this breeding season love their Milne Feeds chick starter 😊😊 (it’s so hard to incubate when it’s 40deg and my aircon in hatchery is caput! Must invest in a new one)

After our whirlwind week of family and animal emergencies, I have found peace in reflecting on what’s truly important—my family, both human and animal. My gratitude for the safety and well-being of my feathered friends because of this wonderfully designed chook pen that continues to serve my breeding stock so well, especially during hot summer days and when we have to pack up and go away quickly..

Silver Grey Dorking chicks are a treasure, and it’s exciting that my incubators are still hard at work! Message if you would like to add some to your flock.

Just remember if you buy Light Sussex from Summit Hill they will grow into BIG chickens.. Sussex maybe big but they are big softies and they do go clucky in spring a bit more than the average chicken that maternal instinct is rather strong 😂, so you will need a “solitary confinement cage for sure” I weighed one of my girls today and she weighed in at a whopping 4.9kgs and junior my big rooster weighed in at 8.2kgs! Can you believe it, I knew he was big but never actually weighed him before.. as most people are not chicken crazy and weigh their chickens.. right 😂😂😂He is such a big gently boy who looks after his girls very well! You won’t regret having a flock of lovely white fluffy bums!

This was a picture and post put up on a USA Dorking FB page I follow.. “A great old print by A. F. Lyndon, 1903 from 'The Feathered World' showing good Dorking type. Shown here are Darks (Change the 'silvery-white' feathers to 'straw' in these and you will have our American Coloreds), Whites, and Silver Greys. “

I can’t wait for the next two years to pass and get breeding my Dark dorkings.. Now next challenge “white dorkings” 😂😂😂

CRIKEY the dorkings went quick! I still have lots of light Sussex available. Silver grey dorkings and light Sussex 10weeks old, all the hard work of raising from day olds is done.. just pop them in you chook pen and sit back to wait for your first eggs around June next year 🥰🥰 Guaranteed females, absolutely lovely girls 🐣 😊

Why do I breed these two breeds? Well the best reason is the SGD lay consistently during winter when most other chickens stop and they have their egg hiatus during summer, and the LS they lay during summer and have their egg break in winter Perfect!

I have day olds too but only the SGD are guaranteed female as day olds. Delivery local to Bunbury and surrounds can be arranged 😃

All chickens out of Summit Hill come with a one month health guarantee.. and chick replacement if a death occurs. Also a rooster return with the Sussex is an option if bought back before 12weeks (no replacement Sussex chicken sorry, as light Sussex day olds are unsexed)

Happy to take orders and grow chicks out until off heat with payment up front, I understand how time consuming and expensive it is to set up to raise chicks from day olds. I have lots of day olds hatching every week.

This one is a keeper I think… I shall grow her up and see what she develops into. She looks to be a perfect SGD chick.. but she is only 4days old 😂😂🐣🐣.. Toes (five) round and hard ("spongy" feet to be guarded against), the front toes (three) long, straight, and well spread, the fourth toe distinctly apart from the fifth and inclining towards the ground, the fifth coming away distinctly from the shank and turned up the leg.

Come on now you good things… hatch for mumma! 18 out of 26 Dark Dorking eggs and 8 out of 16 SGD eggs all posted.. SO EXCITED! 🐣🐣🐣 Friday can not get here quick enough (some have wobbly air cells from being tossed around in post, but fingers crossed the chicks can navigate the wobbly air cell and hatch)

Three generations of “Crazy Chicken Ladies” went to the Dardanup Bull & Barrel Festival today.. we had a wonderful day full of talking and selling chickens. It was awesome to see so many familiar faces and chatting all things chicken to you all and I’m so pleased that you all returned to buy more Summit Hill Dorkings! AND …. Thank-you for all the very warm “welcome back to breeding” comments .. 🥰🐣

Chickens make my heart sing.
Fresh eggs do they lay in the Spring.
With bright yellow a yolk,
There’s no luckier folk,
Then those whose pet does breakfast bring.

Enjoy your chickens everyone, remember my chickens are sold with a 4week health guarantee from today… if you have any problems please message me, I aim to sell the best quality and healthiest chicks possible!

Oh Summit Hill was my mums Dads (my Pop) vineyard in Toowoomba.. so the name has so much meaning to all of us! 🐣❤️
