Meet Spider: The Little Heart of the Homestead
Not sure if you’ve been properly introduced to Spider, our tiny chihuahua with a big presence so here he is, doing what he does best: chilling on the homestead deck, watching the world go by.
This year, Spider turns 15. An age that comes with a few more naps, a slower pace, and a wisdom that only time can bring. Where he once darted about with endless energy, he now takes things in his stride, soaking up the warmth of the timber boards, the sounds of the bush, and the comfort of familiar rhythms.
Spider has mastered the art of contentment. He doesn’t ask for much: a sunny spot, a gentle breeze, and the reassurance of being close to his people. From his deck-side perch, he likes to quietly observes the day unfolding, birds calling, leaves rustling, life moving at just the right speed.
There’s something grounding about an old dog at peace. Spider reminds us that slowing down isn’t giving up, it’s settling in. That presence doesn’t need noise. That rest can be purposeful. And that growing older can be done with a whole lot of heart. He lost his nearly 18yr old little buddy Chachi in August so he's adapting to the change still 💔
So if you spot a small chihuahua stretched out on the deck, eyes half-closed and ears still alert, that’s Spider, taking the day as it comes.
🫶 two of our accommodations are dog friendly because we like our guests to have options with their dogs.
