Winter at Five Sticks Farm isn’t about hibernating.

It’s about getting ahead on all those jobs we’ve been putting off, lighting the burn piles and gathering with friends and family as the sun disappears behind the mountains.

There are always stories to tell, plenty of laughter and usually someone staying long after they said they were leaving.

These are the nights that become our happiest memories.

And honestly, we wouldn’t have winter any other way. 🔥🔥🔥

❄️Winter finally arrived❄️

It was just 1°C this morning, with a light frost across the paddocks and ice on the windscreen for the first time this year.

On our way to the gym, we were treated to this magical scene just a few kilometres from the farm on the Kalang River. A lone fisherman was already out chasing the first bites of the day, surrounded by mist rising gently from the water and the dawn chorus of birds welcoming a new day.

No matter how many times we drive this road, this view never fails to inspire. This morning was especially magical 🤍

Whilst I’m busy doing my thing here in Australia (today it’s w**d management and bush regeneration), I’m escaping into stories of Britain’s wonderfully eccentric rural characters—people keeping forgotten crafts alive, farming in the most unlikely ways (including salt!), and quietly proving that not everything has to make sense to be worth doing.

I miss that uniquely British humour and outlook. If you love the countryside, curious people and old-world skills, you’ll probably enjoy this too. It's brilliant.

When our girls are laying, our guests get fresh eggs for brekkie… but one of our chooks is clearly going above and beyon...

This is the second egg this size in a couple of days. We honestly don’t know which hen is responsible, but she’s obviously taking her job very seriously. 🥚🥚🥚

Our sign is UP! This has been quite the creative process - special thanks to for her graphics help with our logo design, for their superb steel cutting and super efficient turnaround and my favourite tradie of all time - Mo for responding with enthusiasm 100% of the time to my long list of whacky requests.

It's been lovely to have a break from guest bookings to get some jobs done and upgrade a few things (more on that later)...
