The Australian Mango Industry Association (AMIA) is pleased to announce that the International Market Access Assessment Panel (IMAAP) has supported its market improvement and access applications for mango exports to the USA and India using irradiation pathways. Both applications will now enter the country-specific pool and await the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s potential prioritisation for international trade negotiation.
Last week the AMIA team travelled to Western Australia to deliver the pre-season roadshows in Carnarvon and Gingin and meet with the local growers - a long-awaited trip as state borders are finally open again.
Thank you to all our attendees and presenters, and to Northern Valley Packers and the Carnarvon Research Station for hosting two successful events.

Growcom's Resilience Team has been busy with presentations at the Australian Mangoes Field Day in Mutchilba, NT Farmers Association Food Futures Roadshow in Mareeba and Queensland Agriculture Building Business Resilience workshop in Capella - and it's only Tuesday!
Through the Farm Business Resilience Program Growcom is assisting horticultural growers to be more resilient, profitable, and better prepared for drought and our ever-changing climate.

Growcom has streamlined the process with the development of a Farm Business Resilience Module, risk report and farm business resilience planning template all housed within Hort360.
Who doesn’t love a juicy, ripe mango ? But what will climate change mean for this Aussie fave? can tell us!
Mangoes are the Northern Territory’s (NT’s) largest horticultural crop. Mango production depends on flowering of mango trees, which is sensitive to minimum and maximum temperatures at critical times in the growing season. High daytime temperatures in particular can inhibit flowering, resulting in a lot less fruit.
Working with the NT Government, the National Environmental Science Program’s (NESP’s) Climate Systems Hub determined changes to these temperature thresholds across NT’s growing regions under a changing climate.
With this information, the industry can make more informed planning decisions about mango production, including viable mango varieties and growing regions.

Why can’t they develop a Mango to have a seed in it like an Avocado easy to eat and not as much waste...I’m just asking?!?!
Aussie mango growers, or mango lovers' elves, are busily working behind the scenes to deliver more than 8 million trays this season. Grab a tea towel and tuck it in the neck of your shirt, because we have some eating to do. Australian Mangoes
A three-year trial using satellite imagery to predict mango yields in the Northern Territory is winding up this harvest. The satellite images were taken at different times to analyse growth and to calculate how productive the harvest might be.
The information provided from satellite imagery was also used by growers to make decisions around logistics, equipment, packing, storage, transport, and product sales.

How firm is your avocado? 🥑
The firmness of avocado fruit is often the most reliable and simplest test of ripeness, and it can tell us when they’re ready to eat.
Under good ripening conditions, changes in firmness and fruit sugars are synchronised so that the fruit have good texture and flavour when they’re soft enough to smash-up for guacamole.
