2025 USDA Dietary Guidelines were released today!

The pyramid is turned upside down, and fermented foods are recommended……

“Your gut contains trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms called the microbiome. A healthy diet supports a well-balanced microbiome and healthy digestion. Highly processed foods can disrupt this balance, while vegetables, fruits, fermented foods (e.g., sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, miso), and high-fiber foods support a diverse microbiome, which may be beneficial for health.”

BREAKING: Sauerkraut is officially good for your gut (and your tastebuds) 🥬

A new study* suggests that wild fermented sauerkraut offers greater support for gut lining protection and digestive health than sauerkraut made with starter cultures – all thanks to its naturally diverse and complex microbial ecosystem.

“The findings indicate that the complex mixture of metabolites in a cabbage fermentation offers advantages over single metabolites to benefit intestinal health.”

At Kehoe’s Kitchen, we’ve always embraced traditional wild fermentation – slow, natural and free from lab-grown starter cultures. This method lets the naturally occurring microbes from our vegetables, soil and environment thrive, creating a richer, more diverse microbiome in every jar.
