A little about Picklehead Pickles

At 6 months of age, Mikey's Czech mum gave him a dill pickle as a teething rusk. With that single action, began an almost unholy, and obsessive love of dill pickles. After experiencing the amazing variety of pickles available in NY, Mike came home to Australia determined to make his own, and make them like nothing else around. Modifying and old family recipe, a f

ew test runs, a semi drunken attempt at label art, and Picklehead was born!! There are 3 flavours, NY Style Dill, Hot Patootie (Chilli) and Bronx Garlic. There are no bar codes, no preservatives or anything nasty, just the best Australian market ingredients and a whole lotta love!!!

We’re BACK !

We have just heard back from our Farm & we’re hoping to have cucumber supply towards the end of March from North QLD, weather permitting.

We can’t apologise enough for the stop supply, North QLD has been hit hard with extreme weather events which has gone through the entire crop, but the farm will be re planting in the next few weeks.

Very bittersweet day for us today as we got our last ever personal delivery from Mikey. He's been bringing us pickles and a smile for just about as long as we can remember and although we'll still be getting those good as hell pickles from the lovely people he's passed the torch to, we're sure gonna miss seeing that beard walk through the door.

We’re super proud to announce that Picklehead will live on!! We were very humbled and overwhelmed by all the interest in the brand, and after receiving the bids, we’ve decided on the new owners. Please join me in congratulating Christian and his crew from the one & only in Alstonville. The guys not only have a 50year family history in the food game, they’ve been massive Picklehead fans for years. Lizzie & I absolutely love what these guys do, their work ethic and their community mindedness, all factors we think will bring them great success. We’ll be heavily involved in the handover period ensuring production fires up again very soon to the same great flavour you all love.

Dear friends,
It is with some sadness, but also excitement that we would like to announce that Picklehead, in its current form, is winding up.

After 11 years, we feel we’ve got the brand as far as we can, & now it’s time to pass the baton onto someone who either wants a cracking side hustle, or take this baby stratospheric!!

We have decided to cease production for now, but we really hope to see Picklehead keep being the OG Aussie Pickle!!

Picklehead’s been an incredible journey, mostly due to all the beautiful people we’ve met along the way & the strong friendships formed.

We were always amazed that the humble little pickles we started making in our apartment kitchen in Paddo, & first ordered by Asa of Kettle & Tin fame, would end up being loved from Port Douglas to Melbourne.

My most treasured moments were the collaborations with all the chefs, brewers, butchers & bakers. We’ve made beer, sausages, pies, hot sauce, frickles, bbq platters, Reuben’s, burgers, frickles, you name it!

All the pickling classes we held were really fun & satisfying, & I’ll also never forget jumping off the Goodwill bridge for Hear & Say in a pickle suit! (Thanks to Billy in a cow suit!)

I also need to thank my tireless, dedicated, production team of my partner & tiny sidekick Lizzie, Krisztina the Hungarian Powerhouse & Gerry who kept us all young at heart. This team kept me laughing & kept me in line, not an easy job!

The dead set legends, Angelo & Nick at always had our backs & delivered the freshest produce, they never let us down.

Angela at VF+ for definitely going above & beyond to do what she could to keep the Kirby Cukes coming, & for taking on the small guy in those early days, she always strived to get us the best.

And last but certainly not least, everyone that’s ever bought or sold our pickles, thank you! Thank you all for indulging my love of everything pickled, it was an absolute honour & privilege to serve each & everyone of you, I’ll never forget your passion for our product, & ultimately you were all responsible for our success.
