Weekend mornings hit different when you find a little neighbourhood gem like Putia Pure Food Kitchen.

Tracey and Marty took over just over a year ago and you can really feel the love they’ve poured into the place.

We ordered the French toast, Turkish eggs and breakfast tacos and loved every plate. Already planning a return trip because that spanakopita croissant is calling our name.

Their house‑made chai and turmeric blends are something special too. Paired with Tim Adams coffee, the dirty chai and turmeric chai were easily some of the best I’ve had.

If you haven’t been, it’s such a cosy spot for fresh, seasonal food, beautiful sweets and those little touches that make a café feel like a local favourite.

Open SUN–THURS 7am–2pm
FRI–SAT 7am–9pm

Find them right across from the train station

This one’s for all the burrata lovers.

The Burrata Burrata banquet at The Spaghetti House is $60pp and genuinely great value for the price. This is what’s included, a loaded burrata starter, your pick of rigatoni alla vodka or mortazza pizza, plus another pasta or pizza and two Italian wine pours. Everything was delicious, and yes, we naturally added the sweet burrata dessert too.

Lunch at Longwang was one of those meals that just hits right. .brisbane
The Mushroom Pad brought all the comfort with those rice noodles and peanuts, the panang curry had that perfect sweet‑spicy coconut warmth, and the grilled miso cabbage turned out to be the kind of side you don’t expect to love as much as you do.

The standout though was the Toothfish. White soy, ginger, Japanese whisky, spring onions, and that dramatic flaming presentation at the table made it unforgettable. Easily the favourite of the day.

We added a wagyu skewer for good measure and wrapped it all up with the Filipino leche flan topped with peanut brittle and fresh fruit.

If you’re heading to Longwang soon, the Toothfish, Mushroom Pad, and miso cabbage deserve a spot on your table.

If you love Wagyu, this place is a hidden gem for Brisbane meat lovers. 🥩

We visited Cow Rock Typhoon Butchery in Tingalpa, a specialist Wagyu butcher offering an incredible range from Australian Wagyu to full-blood Wagyu and premium Japanese Wagyu. Their selection spans marble scores from 2+ all the way up to 9+, so whether you’re after something for a casual barbecue or a luxury steak night, they have options for every level of indulgence.

Wagyu is prized for its beautiful intramuscular marbling, which melts as it cooks and creates that signature buttery flavour and tenderness. The higher the marble score, the richer and softer the meat becomes.

Here’s what we picked up:

🥢 Japanese Wagyu hotpot slices, ultra thin and perfect for quick cooking
🥩 Australian Wagyu slices, great for hotpot or fast grilling
🔥 Full-blood Wagyu chuck roll ribeye (MB9+) the marbling on this was absolutely stunning

And for the barbecue we went with:

🔥 Wagyu sirloin
🔥 Wagyu ribeye fillet

Both were incredible on the barbecue. The smoky char from the grill paired perfectly with the rich Wagyu marbling, giving that melt in your mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy flavour.

If you’re planning a BBQ, hotpot night or serious steak dinner, this butcher is definitely worth a visit.

A beautiful night at Aunty on Wandoo, the newest Cantonese addition to the Tassis group. .
We chose the Trust Aunty banquet and loved the flow of the whole menu, but the standout was the 1/2 Duck Two Ways, roasted breast, leg ballotine, and that spiced fig jus tying it all together. The kind of dish you’d happily go back for on its own. We also added the deep fried ice cream as an extra to the banquet, because some things in life just make sense.

We had a fantastic lunch at Il Verde, choosing a mix of dishes from the à la carte menu.
The weekly special risotto was a highlight, and everything from the burrata and focaccia to the gamberi pasta and rocket salad was fresh, generous, and full of flavour. We finished with panna cotta and tiramisu both the perfect sweet ending. With its welcoming atmosphere and attentive service, Il Verde is an easy place to recommend for a relaxed, delicious Italian meal.

Seafood dreams come true at Fosh 🐟✨ .portside
We enjoyed oysters with lemon and mignonette, Hokkaido scallops, mussels, and ocean trout gravlax, but the star of the show was the dry aged coral trout. Three days aged and bursting with flavour and texture, it was unlike anything we expected and absolutely spectacular. Fresh, line caught seafood served riverside at Portside makes for the perfect leisurely lunch. Highly recommend the coral trout if you’re planning a visit 👌

Tucked away on Adelaide Street is Mercatus Deli a little slice of Italy and a food lover’s adventure.

Fresh daily baked bread, rotating lasagna specials, house marinated olives, and a deli counter brimming with European style meats and cheeses. Shelves stacked with pastas, sauces, oils, and Italian treats waiting to be discovered.

Dine in on a cosy bench with a sandwich and Chinotto, or take it all away. And then the catering boxes. Perfect for picnics, office lunches, and gatherings. We tried the four person grazing box layered with cheeses, cured meats, olives, crackers, and deli bites plus the four person sandwich box, a special selection of freshly made creations like their standout schiacciata with smoked salmon.

Cosy, boutique, and full of soul, Mercatus is the kind of place you visit once and immediately plan your return.
