🍌 Celebrating Generations of Organic Banana Farming at Worth Organic 🍌

Worth Organic, also known as Envirofresh, is an organic banana plantation managed by third-generation farmers Greg Worth and his wife, Kylie. This family-run business has fully transitioned to organic farming, becoming significant suppliers of organic Cavendish bananas to supermarkets, mainstream retail, wholesale, and smaller retailers.

The legacy began in the late 1950s when Greg Worth’s grandfather started growing bananas in the Innisfail area. This tradition was continued by Greg’s father, and now, as a third-generation grower, Greg has embraced organic farming since 2003. The 250-acre property in the North Johnstone River Valley is now dedicated to growing high-quality organic bananas.

“We wouldn’t grow bananas any other way!” says Greg, reflecting their commitment to organic practices. 🌿

In January 2020, Worth Organic faced a significant setback when a storm on the 17th caused the loss of 60% of their crop. Kylie Worth remarked, “We have never experienced this extent of loss from a thunderstorm. Cyclones are usually our climatic threat, having lost 100% of our crop when the last cyclone passed over the Innisfail region. Hopefully, we won’t have to experience more losses this year from storms or cyclones.” ⛈️

Despite these challenges, Worth Organic continues to thrive, driven by a passion for sustainable farming and a commitment to providing the best organic bananas. 🌱

Have you tried Cauliflower Rice? 🍚🌱

We sometimes make this at home as a delicious and healthy rice alternative. Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

• 1 medium head of cauliflower
• 1 tablespoon of olive oil
• 1 small onion, diced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Optional: herbs like parsley or cilantro for garnish

Instructions:

1. 🥬 Remove the leaves and core from the cauliflower, and cut it into florets.
2. 🌀 Pulse the florets in a food processor until they resemble rice grains.
3. 🍳 In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
4. 🧅 Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
5. 🧄 Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
6. 🥄 Stir in the cauliflower rice, and cook for 5-7 minutes, until it’s tender but not mushy.
7. 🧂 Season with salt and pepper to taste.
8. 🌿 Garnish with your favourite herbs and serve.

Such beautiful organic produce coming in from our farmers lately! 🌽🍅🥬🍆❤️

The cool change in weather sent us digging out our slow cooker on Saturday morning.

We used our certified organic steak, searing it first, then tossing it in with 1 litre of broth and some organic carrots, potatoes, celery, garlic, onions, and freshly picked garden herbs. Just salt and peppered to taste and we enjoyed a hearty dinner with plenty of leftovers!

If you’re vego, slow cooking is still a great option as it slowly brings out the flavours of the veggies over hours. Give it a go!

We have plenty of fresh organic veg for soups and stews right now including spuds, onions, celery, carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes and parsnips (new this week!).

We hope you've had a lovely holiday break! Were you merry and silly?.. or low key and relaxed? Are you tired and need a holiday from the holiday? or well rested? .. I think we are somewhere in the middle 😂

We had a lovely few days sailing, swimming and chilling on Django's dads little sailboat at Yamba and Iluka on the Clarence River in NSW... Did a little camping, caught up with a lot of friends which was both soul filling and socially hectic 😝.. Overall a lovely switch off and we're feeling re-invigorated for getting back to it!

We hope you're having a lovely Easter long weekend! We've been enjoying some quiet time, hanging with friends and enjoying some beach action ☺️

The favourite crisp, tart and sweet Pink Lady apples start up this week thanks to McMahon Organics in Stanthorpe.

Just a reminder we are back to normal delivery from this Tuesday. There are also no changes across the Anzac Day and Labour Day weeks. We'll be delivering as normal across these holidays. The people need to eat!
The only issue is that bread will be unavailable for the TUE/WED deliveries for all public holiday weeks.

Happy weekend everyone! Here's our delivery plan for Easter next weekend:

✅ Delivery will be as normal on Good Friday 7th April.
❌ No delivery Easter Saturday or Sunday.

And we'll be back to normal delivery from Tuesday 11th April onwards.

No changes across Anzac Day / Labour Day weeks. We'll be delivering as normal across these holidays. The people need to eat!

The new season of organic apples has now started. We have beautiful Royal Gala, Granny Smith and juicing grade fruit in from our quality local organic Stanthorpe growers McMahon Bros ACO . Along with the lesser know varieties Abas and Akane from Gecko Woods Biodynamic Orchard Dem #712 in Victoria.

🍎Abas apples are a red variety. Crisp and juicy with dark red stripes. A little less sweet than a Gala.
🍎Akane apples are also red, with a good balance of sweet and sharp flavours. The flesh is firm rather than crisp, with plenty of juice.

Stock up on broc this week!

Broccoli is one of our most popular veggies, and for good reason.. Its unique flavour and texture is loved by many people. So many ways to prepare too! You can eat it raw, juiced, steamed, stir-fried, or baked. Broccoli is a powerhouse of nutrition containing fibre, vitamins C and K, folate, and potassium, and many micronutrients. Being low in calories makes it a popular choice for those watching their weight. Stock up on quality bargain mangoes this week! Thanks to a glut on the market, we have them at at just 2 bucks each. The harvest this week is from the legend farmers at Mt Alma Fresh Organics ACO #11982 in Burdekin, halfway between Bowen and Townsville in North QLD.

In fruit, we’ve also got fresh organic cherries, coconuts, red grapefruit and honeydew melon for this weeks deliveries.

In veggies, caulis are back, along with the full range of Chinese veg, snow peas and sugar snaps.

We always try to prioritise local produce, but in order to offer a full range, produce will sometimes come from the Southern states, more often in the summer months.

The certification number is a verification of the farmer operating under Certified Organic regulations. So you can rest assured everything is truly organic.

When you choose organic, you’re choosing to feed your family nutrient-rich pesticide-free food, grown with natural fertilisers in rich healthy soil. A stark contrast to the conventional approach of using toxic artificial pesticides and fertilisers which gradually deplete the soil. Organic farmers also plant cover crops to keep the soil alive and healthy, rather than leaving it barren and dry.
Conventional farming usually involves excessively tilling the soil, releasing more greenhouse gasses, speeding up climate change. Conventional fertilisers are also often made from by-products of the fossil fuel industry.

😊 SIMPLE GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE
1/ Fruit - handful of berries (or fruit of your choice)
2/ Greens - handful of baby spinach (or other subtle tasting greens)
3/ Liquid - 1 cup oat milk (or dairy alternative of your choice)
You can play around with fun additions like vanilla as a healthy sweetener, go super fresh with mint or spice it up with some cinnamon which pairs great with bananas 🍓🍌🥬🫐
