Hi, I'm Elisse - a registered naturopath working from
Thyroid health comes up in almost every consult, especially with clients who are focused on fertility, postpartum, perimenopause and menopause.
Here's how I actually approach supporting my own thyroid health:
1. Eat enough.
Chronic under-eating and aggressive dieting can lower T3 and shift how your thyroid hormones are metabolised.
2. Take chronic stress seriously. Stress doesn't just "switch off" your thyroid, but prolonged physiological stress can interact with both the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis and your reproductive hormones.
3. Watch the exercise-fuelling balance. High training loads paired with low energy availability can suppress reproductive function and alter thyroid hormones.
4. Test before you treat. I want to see TSH and free T4 first, then consider TPOAb/TgAb testing where it's clinically appropriate.
Your thyroid doesn't need to be complicated. It needs consistency, enough fuel, and the right testing before jumping to conclusions.
We'll be diving deeper into strategies to proactively support your thyroid at our upcoming thyroid workshop on Saturday.
