Hi to our lovely northeystorganicmarket regulars.
This Sunday 29 March will be our last market for a few weeks.

We’ve been increasingly busy during the weeks preparing orders to go out all over Australia. So we can catch up, we’ve made the difficult call to take a break from the markets.

We hope to be back in May and will post any updates here.

If you need to stock up, you can order from us online at https://sovereignfoods.com.au. You can choose to have your order shipped or to pick up from our warehouse in Moorooka.

Just like that we are at the end of the year already.

Thank you for supporting us and our growers for another big year. We are lucky to spend our days working with a community of people who care about the same things we do - good food, care for the environment and support of Australian growers.

Heading into 2025 we have made the tough decision not to reopen the Wednesday Moorooka Midweek Market. We have also decided not to open the pop up retail shop in the warehouse on a Wednesday.

For those of you who order from us online, or visit us at Northey Street Markets, nothing will change.

We started Sovereign Foods with the goal of sourcing Australian grown pantry produce to make it accessible in a market that has been flooded by cheap imports. As food eaters, we wanted access to affordable perishables (fruit, vege, dairy, bread) hence our desire to open our warehouse to everyone for the Moorooka Midweek Market.

This year, as our online business has continued to grow and with limited resources, we have had to ask ourselves important questions about priorities, as we don’t have resources to do both. For this reason we are choosing to focus on the reason we got started, which is to ensure that people have access to Australian grown organic and chemical free pantry produce in a market that is greatly under serviced.

We will continue to peddle our pantry produce online (you can choose courier or pick up options) and at on Sunday. After this week we will not offer perishables (including fruit, veg, dairy, bread). We have also decided we won’t be opening the warehouse to the public every Wednesday, as without the Moorooka Members Market, it is not viable to set up the pop-up shop each week.

Thank you all for your understanding and support. We are about to have our yearly break and the warehouse will be closed Monday 23 December and we will re-open Monday 6 January. Our last Sunday market at Northey Street will be on Sunday 22 December and our first market back will be Sunday 5 January.
With gratitude, Thor, Tara and the Sovereign Foods Team

As food eaters, we wanted access to affordable perishables (fruit, vege, dairy, bread) hence our desire to open our warehouse to everyone for the Moorooka Midweek Market. To do this well and ensure that everything arrives at its freshest requires a lot of attention and a lot of labour.

This year, as our online business has continued to grow, we have struggled to do both the bulk foods and the perishables as well as we would like with the resources we have. When we asked ourselves the important questions about priorities, the answer started to become clear: we need to get back to the reason we started, which is to ensure that people have access to Australian grown organic and chemical free pantry produce in a market that is greatly under serviced.

We will continue to peddle our pantry produce online and at northeystorganicmarket on Sunday, but after this week we will not offer perishables (including fruit, veg, dairy, bread). We have also decided we won’t be opening the warehouse to the public every Wednesday, as without the Moorooka Members Market, it is not viable to set up the pop-up shop each week. In the future, we will look to have an ongoing retail set up, but we aren’t ready for that yet.

If you wish to continue to support us, you can still order online. You can choose to get your order couriered or you can select a number of pick up options through the week from our warehouse, or from Northey Street Markets on Sunday.

Thank you all for your understanding and support. We are about to have our yearly break and the warehouse will be closed Monday 23 December and we will re-open Monday 6 January. Our last Sunday market at Northey Street will be on Sunday 22 December and our first market back will be Sunday 5 January.

We've been sharing some little videos of our new recipes going up on the website recently, but we know many of you love the good old fashioned photos! Here's a quick look at our latest recipe, homemade fresh soy milk made from Slater Farms beautiful 'Hayman' variety dried soy beans, grown in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

These beans make the most creamy, delicious soy milk you'll ever taste. It doesn't get any better.

Have a browse through the photos, we've included some words with each one to describe the process. Also check out the full recipe/blog on our site for all the intricate details (we'll put the blog link below in the comments).

Do you think you'd try making your own soy milk at home? We used to get put off making it because it can curdle in tea and coffee, but with our new recipe it can be used for everything!

Have fun if you make it, and let us know how you go :)

These biodynamically grown soy beans and other Slater Farms produce are available now in our online shop - delivery Australia wide or local Brisbane pickup.

Meet Farmer Stewy! This is Stewart Neilsen from Ecodamia and he's the man behind the delicious chemical free macadamia range we have available in our online shop.

We had a good chat with Stewart a few weeks ago when he dropped off our latest order of macadamias, and with his help we've put together a short article about the Ecodamia farm including how the nuts are grown and processed on farm without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilisers and using regenerative farming practices.

We hope you enjoy the short read https://sovereignfoods.com.au/blogs/our-producers/ecodamia

Putting producers at the heart of what we do is our number one goal. Thank you to Stewart and his family, and to all of the family farms out there growing such wonderful produce for us to enjoy 💚
