The Week That Was.

And what a week; of joy and sadness. Our girls (Australian White) gave birth, two sets of twins and one solo.

Three of the lambs were up and feeding within an hour. Unfortunately, one set of twins weren’t and mum had abandoned them. So in they came for bottle feeding.

After a long night we were left with one remaining who by the following day was up and bouncing around. We introduced her back to mum. The bond between them wasn’t broken and the lamb started feeding. All good until the following morning - a fox must have taken her 😢

Wishing everyone well
Kind regards

Welcome back to the farm
So, the week that was.
Work commenced with excavation for our new shed site and sheep yards. Clint of Coastal Dirt Solutions (0477042665) did a fantastic job - even improving the untainted road to the river. Access we need to access the Brogo River. Thanks mate.
The elephant and Australian purple garlic are coming along nicely; the outdoor entertainment cooking area has been fitted with plantation blinds and windows allowing views of the countryside and providing ventilation in summer.
More importantly, our new addition of Australian White ewes are pregnant. So looking forward to new lambs playing in the paddock come spring. Shout out to Chip (our ram) for a job well done!
Ground preparation is underway for planting out our seed stock of Australian native flowers as provided by ‘Lucinda’s Everlastings’ (everlastings.com.au), to add colour to the farm and a food source for our bees.

Lastly, our thanks to everyone for their feedback re our new product - cold smoked tomato paste. We’re now taking orders and selling via local outlets

And that’s a wrap for this week.

The week that was
And what a septimana horribilis it’s been! Monday my bride fell and broke her hip requiring a full replacement which was done on the Tuesday at Bega hospital. We can’t thank all involved enough for their professionalism and care; from the paramedics to the emergency team to the surgeon and operating room staff, to the doctors and nurses, cleaners and catering personnel.
Tuesday afternoon I had to pass on the news that her brother had passed away. Due to the surgery and recovery period she won’t be able to travel interstate for the funeral.
Recovery is coming along well.
With regards to the farm, harvest of finger limes is just about done with one last order to fill.
So now comes our quiet period where we can focus on property and equipment maintenance ready for spring.
Wishing one and all a wonderful time ahead
Kind regards

The weeks that were since our last post.
Since our last post we’ve been extremely busy with the following:
1. Harvest of our wee crop of pumpkins
2. Prepping soil for planting this year’s crop of elephant and Australian red garlic, which are now planted
3. Grounds and orchard maintenance. Thankfully it looks like grass growing has eased off which gives us more time to focus on additional activities such as building a new chicken run, new dog kennel, orchard soil health, pruning of the finger limes and construction of sheds
4. We’re still filling finger lime orders and this year we are supplying Tom’s Super Fruits at Canberra’s Belconnen Markets
5. Additionally, we’ve been busy filling orders for finger limes to the Pambula/Eden oyster farms and hoping we still have enough for their orders for their upcoming inclusion at the Narooma oyster festival.
6. Lastly, we’ve settled on how we’ll enclose the cooking area of our covered pergola - the timber venetian blinds will keep out the inclement weather and allow us still enjoy the view when open

On the dog front , Suzie our old kelpie has made a full recovery from her illness and is enjoying life again.

And that’s a wrap
Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break

The week that was.

And what a couple of weeks it’s been! This season the tomatoes, spring onions, chives, silverbeet, shallots have gone nuts. Consequently much tomato powder, Passata and tomato paste has been made as well as onion jam with excess provided to the Bega Community Pantry.

Excess Elephant garlic has been either dried or minced.

Harvest of Finger Limes continues with the farm now supplying Broadwater Oysters and the Oyster Barn along with sales to Fresh food markets at Jindabyne and Canberra.
Fruit not suitable for sale has been made into a paste (think quince paste) and trialled amongst family and friends with encouraging feedback. Consequently we’ve decided to do a limited run as soon as we take delivery of the environmentally acceptable packaging.

The rains and cooler weather have been well received though mowing is now the main event.

And that’s a wrap.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.

Kind regards

week at the farm. What a wonderful week. The rain came with a dump of 75mm which was much needed. As a result of the rain, the finger limes have come along nicely in both size and sugar content., just in time for our first harvest commencing Monday and delivery to Wheeler’s Restaurant, Merimbula. Don’t forget the farm is open to visit and pick your own. Demand for our elephant garlic cloves and rounds has almost exhausted our stock with our final delivery to Pambula Fresh Food Market. Interest in our cold smoked salt and pepper remains strong resulting in another batch being done in the next two weeks. Our thanks for the positive feedback and encouragement to continue this. As suggested, we’ll trial smoked paprika soon. As for the videos, our girls decided to join us at the end of a hard day maintaining the property, enjoying rice crackers and a glass or two of red w**e. Our neighbour kindly gave us some homemade duck pate which went down a treat. Thanks guys. Lastly, the new smoker is a dream, last night’s pastrami was a success after 8hrs cooking/smoking. Next week we start with the beef jerky. And that’s a wrap. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

This week at the farm.

Well the rains have still held off, resulting in us performing a couple of rain dances of an evening after a gin or two. Probably, due to how I dance has kept the rain away.

With regards to produce, the elephant garlic is in high demand as is the cold smoked salt and pepper and our honey.

A visitor to the farm purchased all our stock of salt, pepper and honey, consequently we are hard at it smoking more. As for the honey, a second Flow Hive is on the way.

Visitors to the farm have been wonderful with the first being a member of the McGregor family, a special moment considering the farm was first established by the McGregor’s c1850.

Re the finger limes, the fruit is coming along and orders have been received from local restaurants and as far away as Victoria. Testing conducted has shown the fruit has a sugar content.

And that’s about it for this update.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe 2025.
