The Farmer’s Table. A new way to experience Margan.

We’ve always thought the best way to understand what we do here is to see where it all happens.

We’ll take you through the vineyard and Kitchen Garden, then into the Barrel Hall to taste w**e from barrel and talk a little about what we’re growing and making along the way.

Then it’s time for lunch. Take a seat in the Restaurant for a seasonal menu overlooking the vines and Brokenback Mountains.

The vineyard, the garden, the w**ery and your table. All within 100 metres.

Thursday to Monday | 11am | $150 per person

Bookings via the link in bio.

Friday afternoon in Broke. A few w**es open, the cellar door humming and the weekend just getting started.

We’re here all weekend if you’re heading our way 🍷

Chef Harry and Chef Tom heading back from the kitchen garden to see what’s making its way onto the menu.

Having a garden a few steps from the kitchen means what’s growing well tends to have a pretty big say in what we cook. Sometimes the menu starts with a plan. Sometimes it starts with a walk outside.

It doesn’t get much more local than that.

Nearly 30 years on, Lisa is still very much part of the details.

Getting the Restaurant ready for another weekend, with flowers from the garden, tables nearly set and a few finishing touches before we do it all again tomorrow.

See you over the weekend.

We’ve had a good couple of weeks, with some great results coming through from both the Halliday W**e Companion and Hunter Valley W**e Show.

The 2024 Saxonvale Mourvedre received 97 points in the 2027 Halliday W**e Companion and was named Best Other Red or Blend, while our yet-to-be-released 2025 Fordwich Hill Semillon received 96 points and took home the Karl Stockhausen Trophy for Best One-Year-Old Semillon at the 2026 Hunter Valley W**e Show.

We’ve also retained our Five Star W**ery rating in the 2027 Halliday W**e Companion, another good result amongst the mix.

Awards season happens to fall at one of the busiest times of year here. We’re pruning 70 hectares of vines, bottling our 2025 Single Block reds, classifying the 2026 reds and making decisions on our Chardonnay selections.

All in all, a great couple of weeks and plenty for the vineyard and w**ery teams to be proud of.

Cork or screwcap. Does it actually matter?

It's a question we still get asked in Cellar Door and one that usually comes with the assumption that cork means a better bottle of w**e.

It doesn't.

Here in Australia, screwcaps have become the norm for good reason. They provide a consistent seal, help protect w**e from oxidation and remove the risk of cork taint. In fact, Australian Riesling helped lead the screwcap revolution, when a group of Clare Valley w**emakers chose to bottle their 2000 Rieslings under screwcap.

Which makes this bottle a little different.

Our Huesgen & Margan Riesling is grown, made and bottled in the Mosel, Germany, and arrives back in the Hunter Valley under cork, quite unlike the w**es we make and bottle here at Margan.

Different closures. Different w**emaking traditions.

Neither is necessarily better. What matters is what's happening inside the bottle.

Bare vines, sheep between the rows, plenty happening in the kitchen garden and the fire going inside the Restaurant.

A few scenes from Broke at this time of year.

Cellar Door and the Restaurant are open all weekend.

Made from Riesling grown on the steep slate slopes of the Trabener Würzgarten vineyard in the Mosel, it’s dry and bright, with fresh lime, pear and white flowers, backed by fine acidity and the slate minerality of the vineyard.

If you’re visiting Cellar Door this weekend, ask us for a taste.

We have a couple of casual Front of House positions available across our Restaurant and Cellar Door here in Broke.

If you enjoy good food and w**e, working with people and are keen to learn more along the way, we’d love to hear from you. The roles include weekend work, so weekend availability is important.

Spring starts a little earlier in the greenhouse.

The next round of seedlings are coming along, ready to make their way into the kitchen garden as the weather begins to warm.

There’s a fair bit of back and forth between Chef Harry and the garden team at this stage, what he wants to cook, what we want to grow and, of course, what will actually grow for us.

A few months from now, some of these tiny seedlings will be making their way onto plates in the Restaurant.

For now, they’ve got a bit of growing to do 🍃
