It was great to hear direct from Bundaberg Canegrowers at a shed meeting this week.

Fertiliser supply, fuel security, rural connectivity, water security and power prices were on the agenda.

We also discussed the Federal Government’s Sugar Code of Conduct review survey.

From E10 campaigns in the 1980s to the Ethanol Express hitting the road in the 2000s — CANEGROWERS has been backing cleaner, homegrown fuel for decades. And here we are in 2026 still asking governments to stop kicking the can down the road.

Queensland’s cane industry already has the capacity to produce more than 400 million litres of ethanol every year, helping strengthen Australia’s fuel security, support regional jobs and reduce emissions. The opportunity is sitting right in front of us — but without firm policy and a mandatory ethanol mandate, investment and progress continue to stall.

We’ve led this conversation for decades. Now we need governments to finally commit.
