Ever wondered what a pin-wheel harvester is? 🚜🌰
We visited one of our growers at Maccon Farm, where farm manager Lino Brillante showed us exactly how it works during macadamia harvest.
This machine is designed to pick nuts straight off the ground even through grass and tough orchard conditions. The pin wheels are stiff enough to lift the nuts out of the grass, before they’re blown through the machine, leaving sticks and debris behind.
From there, the nuts move into a cage where they rub together, then pass through a series of rollers that press and strip the husk off.
Conditions make all the difference. If there’s moisture in the ground, the husk is harder to remove but with good sun and airflow in the Bundaberg region, it comes off clean for a smooth, efficient harvest.
From orchard floor to your packet of Golden Crunch, this is how harvest comes together. 🌰
