As most people probably know by now, we have sold the Village Grocer & Store and will hand the reins to Mehwish and Azher Choudhry from tomorrow, Tuesday, March the 3rd.

In a weird bit of synchronicity, this is almost seven years to the day since we opened our doors as wide-eyed greenhorns with a million grand plans but not a single clue (and, without benefit of a crystal ball, zero idea of all the sh*tstorms lurking just beyond the horizon).

While we were pouring buckets of our blood, sweat, tears and money into giving Bundanoon a proper place to shop for fresh food and groceries we were living and breathing the everyday life of this community, our regular customers becoming woven into the fabric of OUR daily lives. Hopefully at least some will remain friends for life.

We end this chapter with a better understanding of what we’re capable of (and how much a marriage can withstand)! As hard as this gig has been sometimes it’s going to be a real shock to wake up on Wednesday and realise we’re no longer the proprietors of the ‘Grocer’.

What's next? We’re looking forward to putting our feet up … at least for a minute, while we think of new ways to occupy our lives 7 days a week. We’ll still call Bundanoon home, as we have for the past 15 years. So you’ll continue to see us around.

We know you’ll do all you can to show the new owners the real warmth of a Bundanoon welcome. They have many great plans, including keeping our staff and learning to be bakers (so please be kind and patient, Bread-lovers). They haven’t yet made any decisions about the name of the joint so watch this space…

Now to some essential thank yous:

A virtual bear hug and the biggest thank-you of all to our kind, funny, hardworking, long-suffering staff. They kept smiling through the feast and famine of our stockholding, doing their best to keep the shop looking tip-top, all while providing sterling customer service and enduring the often-challenging personalities of their overlords.

And to the Bundanoon, Exeter, Penrose and Wingello communities who supported our mission from the beginning: thank you. Sincerely.

Public service announcement, folks. We’ll be opening later on Monday morning to undertake some essential maintenance work. Not sure exactly when we’ll be done so best give us a buzz on 4883 6633 before you head out. Lloyd will be baking in the morning, but not at the crack of sparrow. Apologies for any inconvenience.

A quick reminder that we’ll be open from 9 until 5 tomorrow, the holiday Monday. Lloyd will be up before the crack o’dawn baking bread and roasting chooks. And I’ll do my best to juggle barista duties in between serving customers. Have a great day whatever you’re up to.

It’s the last of the summer public holidays this weekend. FYI, we’ll be open as usual on Saturday and Sunday, but only 9am to 5pm on Monday. Lloyd will be up a the crack on Monday morning though, to bake bread and do a batch of chooks.

…and with that we say goodbye to 2025 and hello to the new year. We’d like to wish you a safe and happy New Year celebration and a peaceful and prosperous 2026.

A reminder that we’ll be closed tomorrow (Thursday), reopening Friday morning with deliveries of fresh produce and perishables, along with our fresh, in-house bread and roast chooks.
