Recently our Forestry Specialist Dion visited a landowner โ and Tree Alliance member! โ at Westbury to discuss native forest management.
It was important for the landowner to find out more information about native forest management to complement their objectives around a regenerative farming philosophy whereby they focus on harnessing the natural values on their property.
This includes the value of shelter their native forest provides to their beef cattle grazing enterprise on adjacent pastures, and the use of the forest by cattle for calving in periods of wet and cold weather.
The landowner shared many of the proactive management activities they have undertaken as part of this, including browsing control of wallabies.
PFT's Forestry Specialist was able to share information with the landowners about their potential obligations regarding fencing in line with the Forest Practices Code.
The Forest Practices Authority has detailed information regarding landowner obligations available on their website at https://www.fpa.tas.gov.au/landowners
