Although today is Fathers Day in the human world, in alpacas the role of a male is strictly limited to s***m donor and they never get to meet their offspring.

At Gumnut Valley Alpacas we pay homage to the role of the mother, who is solely responsible for her cria. In this heartwarming video we see first time Mum Yolanda kissing her cria Jemima, seemingly much to her delight. But in actual fact, she is transferring essential healthy gut bacteria to her.

We love birthing season and showing off our new alpaca and goat babies.

Here we have a slightly different ‘birth’ with our amazing ‘Big Buzz’ delivering a healthy ‘Buzz Jr’

This sure was a labour of patience and frustration as we purchased a Farmtrek UTV in November 2025 to replace our little old Crossfire workhorse.

Due to arrive in January 26, we got excuse after excuse and in March we purchased a CFMoto Uforce 800XL locally, as we could not do without a buggy and there was no light at the end of the tunnel with Farmtrek. We couldn’t get a refund, and Fair Trading was unable to achieve anything either.

After a gestation period of 9.5 months we finally received our Farmtrek UTV. Steve took it once around the paddock and said it didn’t compare to the CFMoto (his exact words were that it was a piece of s**t). So we sold it for a small profit and put down another $2k for Buzz Jr. All is well that ends well 🥰

At 11.15am today El Shaddai Celeste went into labour. She was a maiden sired by Lillyfield Diesel & Dust and at 319 days gestation.

When the front legs appeared and the nose was visible but she didn’t progress, I had to assist. She had to be gently stretched to get the head out, but sadly this little white male was already deceased 💔

Introducing Gumnut Valley Indigo 🩷 born around 7.30am this morning to our sweet Imogen.

Sired by Lillyfield Diesel & Dust, Indigo weighed in at 8.5kg after 337 days gestation.

Imogen is one of our fav girls. Although her fleece is average, her temperament more than makes up for it. ‘Immy’ lost her firstborn cria during labour 2 years ago and we’re thrilled she now has a healthy girl.

Last autumn we started with a streak of 6 boys. So far we’re 3 out of 3 girls, with another 8 due this spring 🤞 🩷 🦙

Nigerian Dwarf goat Coco was huge compared to her twin sister Chanel, who gave birth to triplets a few days ago.

Coco delivered a gorgeous pigeon pair late this afternoon. Jet 🩵 is a black and white buckling and Jewel 🩷 a tri coloured doeling.

Jet and Jewel weighed more than Onyx, Sapphire and Opal together! No wonder Coco was so big 🤣

Introducing Gumnut Valley Jemima 🩷 who arrived at 10.45am today after 337 days gestation to El Shaddai Yolanda.

Jemima was sired by Lillyfield Diesel & Dust and weighed in at 7.4kg. Despite Yolanda being a maiden, she’s a very attentive Mum. Her colour was a complete surprise as there is mainly white and nothing darker than fawn in her pedigree.

Poor Chanel (pic 1) has developed mastitis and can’t feed her triplets anymore. She is getting antibiotics, hot compresses and we’re trying to drain her teats. Her udder is very hard and she’s so uncomfortable.

Meanwhile Coco (pic 2) is due to have her babies any day now. She is the size of a house and just slowly waddles around now as it’s all getting too hard.

Farm life is many things, but never dull!

Spring has officially sprung at Gumnut Valley Alpacas with the birth of our first cria for the season.

Piazolla Park U R My Sunshine delivered her first live cria around 8am this morning after 336 days gestation. She previously lost a full term cria during labour.

Gumnut Valley Romilly 🩷 was sired by Lillyfield Diesel & Dust and inherited her dark brown colour from her maternal grandfather Millduck Stringy Bark.

Romy is getting colostrum supplemented as Sunshine is not the maternal type and has not yet allowed her to access the milk bar. We’re hopeful this will change or it will be a bloody long 6 months bottle feeding 😬 😩

Our gorgeous Nigerian dwarf doe Chanel delivered three healthy little doelings today.

We’re super excited to introduce:
Onyx 🩷 black & white 1.45kg
Sapphire 🩷 white & black 1.45kg
Opal 🩷 mostly white 1.30kg
The girls are ND 79.7%

Many thanks to Blood Gum Creek Brick for his contribution with all his offspring named after gemstones.

This is the second set of triplets for Chanel, as her first kidding was to Coconut 🩵, Peanut 🩵 and Pistachio 🩷. Her second birthing gave us Butternut 🩷 with both girls retained for future breeding.

Chanel is a very good Mumma and is feeding all her babies well 🥰
