Happy Father’s Day to all those who Dad.🤎

Here’s to a day outside, good food, muddy shoes, curious kids and all the wildly wonderfully unexpected moments that come with them.

From all of us at The Farm!

Would you guess bread is one of the most wasted foods in Australian homes?🍞

And often, the problem isn’t that the bread has spoiled. It’s simply that we’ve stopped seeing the potential in it once it goes stale.

This month’s Fermentation Club with Katerina of All Things Cultured looks at what happens when we rethink old bread as an ingredient rather than waste.

Together, you’ll make:
Old Sourdough Miso
Dry Toast Garum
Stale Bread Kvass.

Learning how fermentation can transform yesterday’s loaf into something entirely new.🙌

It’s hands-on, so you’ll leave with your own ferments, recipes and the skills to keep experimenting at home.

Before The Farm was The Farm, this patch of land had already lived a few lives. And if local rumours were anything to go by, it could have had a very different one again.😬

When Tom and Emma bought the property in 2014, they imagined something much bigger. A working farm where people could eat, learn, wander, get their hands a little dirty and understand more about the land, farming and the food we grow.

Architect Dominic Finlay Jones helped give that vision its physical form.

Rather than wiping the slate clean, they worked with what was already here. The old farmhouse, flower shed and bales stayed. Materials were reused. Buildings were kept simple and honest, shaped around the land, the climate and the workings of the farm.

By 2015, The Farm had opened its gates.

More than a decade later, plenty has grown and changed. But that early thinking is still everywhere you look. Or, perhaps more importantly, in all the things you barely notice.✨

Apparently, Dads are fairly easy to please.

Cars. Coffee. Tractors. Steak. Baby goats. Cold b**r. We took notes. 📝

So, we’re feeling pretty good about Father’s Day at The Farm this Sunday.

Come for breakfast, wander the Farm, meet the animals, grab a b**r, settle in for lunch and make a day of it.

Almost a year ago, we started a conversation about why it’s becoming harder for small-scale farmers to keep locally raised meat local.

The issue hasn’t gone away. But the conversation is moving forward.

On Thursday 10 September, Relocalise Northern Rivers, Vitality Farms Northern Rivers, and Wellco Advisory are bringing farmers, butchers, industry and community together at The Farm to share what they’ve learned and work through practical next steps for the future of our local meat supply.🙌

This isn’t just an information night. It’s a working conversation about what could change and how we can move from conversation into action.

Whether you work in our local food system or simply care about where your food comes from, you’re welcome to be part of it.

Yes, there’s b**r.
Yes, there’s somewhere to park.
And no, Dad doesn’t have to pretend he needs another pair of socks.

Father’s Day at The Farm might just have everything covered.

A steak Three Blue Ducks, cold b**r on tap, plenty of machinery to inspect unnecessarily closely, baby goats to cuddle, farm tours and enough open space to tire out everyone except Dad.

Case closed.
