As it’s the King’s Birthday public holiday here in parts of Australia, we thought we’d share this little throwback!

Years ago, when we launched our first company - a premium electric bicycle startup in London - we were invited to then‑Prince Charles’ royal residence to show him our bikes. He even took one for a spin in front of a pack of journalists while we showed him how it all worked.

We were as obsessive then about developing a premium quality product as we are now with House of Matcha. While we move fast, we take care with things that matter - there was no compromise back then on finding the right parts and partners to create a premium electric bike in what was a sea of cheap imports, and there’s been no compromise now in carefully sourcing ingredients to craft a canned oat matcha latte that tastes amazing (when many don’t).

There are a lot of lessons (and déjà vu moments) we carry from that first chapter into HOM today. That company taught us to build things that last, not chase trends, and focus on what our customers want. It’s the same mindset we’ve brought to this new adventure.

Over the next few months we’ll share more behind‑the‑scenes founder stories from those early days and how they shaped what we’re doing with House of Matcha now.
