Our fish only come from the pristine waters along the length of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. They’re caught one at a
time by hand line – one man, one hook, one fish. We buy the fish alive from around 35 fishing boats and transport them to our live holding facility in Cairns. The fish are sold and delivered either alive or chilled – you have to catch them yourself to get fresher than that. The fish stock is sustainably managed through a quota system, fishing exclusion “green zones” and breeding season closures – all administered by both the Queensland State and Australian Federal Governments. For the past 20 years the majority of fish caught under the quota system have been exported to Hong Kong & China. Recent restrictions in those markets now presents an opportunity for more Australians to enjoy this wonderful fish and for Australian businesses to have wild caught Coral Trout as part of their product line. Blue Reef Coral Trout are based in Cairns where we have extensive fish holding and handling capacity. We use our fleet of trucks to buy live Coral Trout from boats at ports from Mackay to Cooktown, and all points between. We have the infrastructure to deliver consistent and a reliable volume, quality and freshness of fish. Our background is the export of live fish – in 2020 we represented ~70% of all live coral trout exported from Australia. Our people are amongst the most experienced in the Coral Trout supply chain and we have demonstrated our strong capabilities in the supply of fish to all markets.
