I still remember an older Australian lady who used to visit us at the Yandina Market. She was living in a nursing home and started growing microgreens because she felt the food there was not always fresh or nutritious enough.
What started with a few trays and seeds became something much bigger.
She grew beautiful microgreens, came back for more supplies, and even other people in the nursing home became interested in what she was growing. It gave her fresh food, but also something to care for, something to talk about and something to feel proud of.
That is why I believe microgreens can be such a wonderful idea for seniors, especially those who are less mobile or living in aged care. You do not need a garden, heavy work or a lot of space. Just a small tray, seeds, soil, water and a little daily care.
Fresh nutrition can grow right within reach.
