Another year of supporting the Crocodile Research Trip through our donations of our ethical and organic tea.

The annual trip organised by Australia Zoo in partnership with The University of Queensland takes place on 335,000 acres of rainforests and savannahs on a reserve named in honour of Steve Irwin’s commitment to wildlife and wild places. This area is twice the size of Singapore and is hundreds of km from shops or civilisation.

Due to this isolation, 95% of everything the crew needed for the 6-week trip had to be brought in, including food & beverage, supplies, equipment and vehicles.

To contribute to the beverage supply, we donated 6kg of teas (including Bindi Irwin favourite blend Hibiscus Mint. It warms our heart knowing the team had a warm cuppa to look forward to before and after their long days of field work.

This is our go to recipe for any cold brew iced tea. We are big fans of cold brewing tea, as you can develop the flavour of the tea a bit more, especially if you don’t drink anything else.

There’s definitely no problem with cooling down hot tea, which is a quick on the spot way of enjoying iced tea. If you want a quicker iced tea, brew your tea using the appropriate temperature of hot water for 5 minutes and then add ice or chill in the fridge.)

Hot brewing is a more effective method for brewing teas with ingredients having hard outer surfaces, like roots and stems.

Green teas, white teas and some herbal blends are all great to enjoy cold brewed.

When serving, you can even play around with adding soda water for a sparkling iced tea, or coconut water, juices, fruits and fresh herbs.

To store your iced tea over a few days, it’s best to remove all tea leaves, fruit or herbs when storing in a sealed container in the fridge.

Have fun with it and get creative!

•Fill a 1L jug with filtered tap water (room temperature)
•Add 10g of chosen tea to a Fillable tea bag or tea infuser.
•Place filled tea bag/infuser in jug of water and secure with lid.
•Place jug of water with tea in the refrigerator for a minimum of 8-12 hours. Some teas with hard ingredients will need more brew time, or brewed with hot water.
•Once sufficient time has passed, remove tea bag/infuser from jug and seal jug with lid and store in the fridge for up to 7 days. (Tea can last 5-7 days sealed in the fridge once all fresh/dried leaves are removed).

*If you are using a larger sized container, you will need to know its capacity in Litres, in order to scale the above portions.
