☀️Autumn update
It's been a busy 3 weeks getting things done around the farm.
We classed the ram lambs straight out of the paddock averaging 50.5kgs. We have a great cohort coming along nicely for ram sale time

Shearing ✂️
We shore our entire flock in two and a half days....we were definitely busy but a good job done with plenty of positivity in the wool market. Our ewe and ram lambs averaged 2.2kgs for 5mths while our ewes averaged just over 3kgs for 6mths 💪. We also side sampled the young sheep

Scanning
And the numbers keep coming with a return to pleasing results. They averaged 148% with 60% twin rate. The ewes mated to the Trigger Vale ram (Lot 12 in last years sale) achieved 146% conception over 90 ewes for a 5 week single sire joining.

Now we wait for the rain 🌧 🤠

We've been doing plenty of sheep work the last couple of months with mating happening, big rains 🌧 and weighing lambs. I managed to capture a few videos of the young sheep for you to enjoy. Really happy with their progress ☺️. Below is a video of some ram lambs that we'll select a team from to join to a group of older ewes

💥Shearing October 2025💥
So it's back to the amateur video editor but here's a snapshot of shearing last week.

A highlight was having the Qld shearing and woolhandling team hone their skills before the 2025 Shearing and Woolhandling National Championships. Good to see them do well and especially good to see our local SA talent performing brilliantly on the big stage 👏

💥Jamestown Show 💥
We were abke to support our local show on the weekend by entering 6 ewe hoggets in the registered class of the competition.
Super happy with the way they presented. They averaged:
65kg
19 micron
3.3kg fleece weight for under 6mths growth
For us this represents all that a productivesheep should be:
✅️early growth
✅️moderate adult weight
✅️cuts good fleece weight
✅️micron
✅️non mulesed
✅️fertile

Weve also spent a bit of time shifting sheep around, gearing up for classing, crutching and shearing

💥Weaning💥
Last week we were flat out with weaning the 2025 drop of lambs. See below for results....needless to say we are thrilled with the weights and glad we have feed ahead of them this year.

Age: 6-12 weeks
Ave weight: 26.4kgs💪

We also finished collecting dba samples so they will be off to XytoVet for analysis in the next week😃

💥Other News💥
Since sale day we've been shifting sheep around and definitely enjoying the warm and wet weather. Our pastures are definitely thriving now. The video below is our ewe hoggets....I am definitely looking forward to having them in a classing race soon

Something a bit different this week after ram sales. It was a pleasure being involved with some of the judging for the Schools Wether Comp at the Royal Adelaide Show. It was really inspiring to see so many kids from all around the state showing their skills and care with their sheep and knowledge of the merino industry. It's always a privilege to walk alongside the next generation as they pursue their passions.
