Well. A memory just came up to remind us that exactly 5 years ago today we were so proud and excited to announce that we had the first 2 purebred Valais Blacknose ewe lambs to be born in Australia! Thinking back, it was so exciting and such a relief to finally see all the years of hard work result in our goal. 6 more lambs were born in the next few days and more a few months later. The beginning of the breed in Australia. And look how far the breed has come since those first steps! The club we started is now an independent entity and I’d say over 70 breeders must now be continuing the legacy we began. We remain proud of this achievement and of the breed we love.

The last two of the 2025 ewe lambs left a few weeks ago and are now settled in their new home. Thankyou to all the owners and breeders of Omazel Valais Blacknose sheep for your support for our stud. We look forward to a bright 2026!

Well… lambing season has been and gone in the blink of an eye - only a few lambs for us this season because we believe that caring for them all individually is so important !
But we have been blessed with some beautiful ones including this guy! Our second spitti born at Omazel !
In a week he is heading to his new home where I am sure he will have a fantastic home and will be one of the luckiest sheep in the world!

Omazel, in conjunction with have achieved ANOTHER first for the Australian Valais Industry by successfully exporting embryos and semen to the USA. After some long months of planning, the tank arrived safely this past week.

This is an opportunity to showcase quality Australian sheep genetics to the world and will hopefully encourage further interest in our Australian valais genetics, adding value to our relatively new breed and the Australian sheep industry as a whole.

We were lucky this year with a good drop of ewe lambs from our imported embryos and so we have some of them now available to breeding homes. We are offering these beautiful girls at varying prices in line with the current market and their markings. We could even arrange a great package deal of a breeding group for someone wanting to get started straight away.

So if you have been thinking about starting in purebred Valais Blacknose sheep, this is a great opportunity to get on board, and simultaneously solve the eternal problem of what to get for Christmas!!

The lambs are growing so fast and we have been so busy that it seems to have just flashed by!
Today was a big day for the lambs with ear tagging, vaccination and DNA sampling all done and now we are up to date!
We have some gorgeous wethers available as pets, a number of lovely ewe lambs and only one ram lamb available from our new sire Kenwood Diablo. please be in touch if you would like to find out more.

After 3 full years of breeding Valais Blacknose we have had our first purebred spitti lamb born here at Omazel. They are very cute, I guess because they are different. Spitti are described in the breed standard as reverse pattern -but in actuality they are a variable pattern, though it is predominantly black with some white, rather than the traditional white with some black. They are quite rare as the breed society in Switzerland marks them as non-ideal such that a spitti ram cannot be registered for breeding as they could potentially have hundreds of lambs in their lifetime, and spread the likelihood of passing the spitti trait to many more animals and diluting the strength of the traditional Valais Pattern -which is the breed standard we aim for. Ewes may be registered for breeding as traditionally they would only have a very few lambs in their lifetime so the risk of spread is not as great. Many spitti ewes will go on to produce traditionally marked lambs.
Some breed up animals may show similar to a spitti pattern but the term spitti is reserved for purebred animals.
