This year’s Feeding Pastures for Profit (FPFP) courses are in full swing. Over the past couple of months, days three and four of FPFP have taken place. Day three focused on preparing for the autumn break, while day four tackled managing wet conditions.

A big thank you to the farmers that opened their gates for the on-farm days, with consultant Phil Shannon leading the hands-on discussions.

FPFP is our flagship program, supporting improved pasture growth, quality and utilisation, while ensuring cows are well fed and productive with the profitable use of supplements. The program runs over seven days, two for theory, followed by five on-farm to put the theory into practice.

It’s no secret that Swan Marsh dairy farmer Jason Smith struggled through the drought that began in 2024. Jason was willing to share his story to draw attention to the plight of all South-west Victorian farmers as the region battled its worst drought in memory.

During the toughest times, it was Jason’s community connections that kept him afloat and a Colac Discussion Group session was the turning point to get him back on track.

Milk Supply Agreements are a key part of dairy farm business planning and decision-making.

Dairy Australia has developed practical tools and resources to support farmers to better understand, review and negotiate milk supply agreements with confidence.

From checklists and negotiation talking points to information on the Dairy Industry Code of Conduct, the Milk Value Portal and the Farmgate Milk Value Tool, these resources can help assess milk pricing structures, understand rights and obligations, and evaluate how contract terms may affect farm businesses.
