Not only shooting at the Pinnacle last night, but also at the grassland reserve, Gungaderra. A concerned resident filmed these death vehicles leaving Mulanggari nature reserve and driving on to Gungaderra in cold, rainy and windy weather conditions. Wind speed 22kph and wind gusts of 45kph. Gungaderra has frequently been used to graze cattle once kangaroos have been killed and new barbed wire fencing has been erected (who paid for that??). Why call it a 'nature reserve?' 💔🦘🦘

Last night at The Pinnacle Nature Reserve, we arrived and heard the shooting of kangaroos.

Just hours earlier, we had been watching this beautiful kangaroo family group, knowing full well what was coming. So many young at-foot joeys were nervously staying close to their mothers.

Then the shooting began.

This footage shows just two of the kangaroos whose bodies were loaded onto the truck.

Bullets were fired into this family group. If either kangaroo was female, her pouch joey would have been ripped from the pouch and bludgeoned to death.

And this is what they call “conservation”.

Nature reserves in Canberra are spaces of violence.

Many thanks to Elizabeth Lee MLA for speaking up for kangaroos in the ACT Legislative Assembly last week! ✊🏼🦘

To quote Ms Lee: “Canberrans deeply value and cherish our native wildlife and expect that they are treated with respect and compassion”

We hope to see many more ACT MLAs speak up for kangaroos in the chamber in the future! 🙏🏼

📧 TAKE ACTION FOR CANBERRA’S KANGAROOS

We’ve had new followers recently, and many people have been asking how they can express their opposition to the ACT’s kangaroo cull.

One of the most powerful things you can do is contact ACT decision-makers and tell them that you oppose the killing.

We’ve created a simple email action to make it easy to send a message.

📧 Instagram: Visit the link in our bio.

Personalised emails have far more impact than copied templates, so please put your own thoughts and feelings into your message if you can.

Other points you may wish to raise include:

• Shooting thousands of native animals each year inevitably causes suffering.

• Kangaroos are living, sentient animals with families and social bonds.

• Conservation should be about learning to coexist with wildlife, not constantly finding reasons to kill it.

• The ACT’s recognition of animal sentience should be reflected in how native animals are treated.

• Kangaroos belong in nature reserves and have lived on this continent for millions of years.

• Nature reserves should be places where native animals are protected, not killed.

• Most importantly, please explain why you personally oppose the killing. Your own words and experiences matter.

Two excellent letters published in Canberra City News this week. Our wildlife needs our voices.

Nature reserves exist to protect wildlife not kill it!

In the 11 June edition of Canberra CityNews, two powerful letters questioned why native animals are being targeted in places meant to keep them safe.

One challenged the ongoing shooting of kangaroos and wallabies in ACT nature reserves. The other raised concerns about proposals for aerial shooting of dingoes, Australia's native apex predator and a vital part of healthy ecosystems.

The contradiction is impossible to ignore: if nature reserves are for conservation, why are native animals being killed within them?

We believe it's time to move beyond outdated lethal control and invest in genuine conservation: protecting habitat, supporting coexistence, and using science to safeguard wildlife, not justify its destruction.

Nature reserves should be sanctuaries, not shooting zones!

When kangaroos defenders are feeling miserable about our government's cruel and barbaric treatment of kangaroos - and other wildlife - along comes the incisive wit of a local cartoonist from Canberra CityNews who exposes some realities.
The ACT politician holding the rifle is Suzanne Orr, ACT Minister for the Environment, who oversees the mass slaughter of kangaroos and wallabies in Canberra nature reserves and the killing of dingoes in Namadgi national park.
Please send her a message telling her what you think. Her email is [email protected]

They call it a ‘sanctuary’, but for the kangaroos and wallabies trapped inside, it’s anything but. The 23km “predator-proof fence” doesn’t protect them - instead, it ensures that when the shooting begins, they have no chance of escape.

For this reason, the killing of kangaroos in Mulligans Flat feels particularly evil.

This winter, 375 kangaroos will be shot here by ACT Government contracted shooters. Hundreds of joeys will be pulled from their mothers’ pouches to be decapitated or bludgeoned to death. Countless wallabies will suffer the same fate.

We will continue to show up and speak up for the kangaroos who are targeted by the killing program, which continues until 31 July. Follow Save Canberra’s Kangaroos and Animal Liberation ACT to stay up to date - we will be outside reserves every night bearing witness, capturing footage and making sure they know we are watching.

Oh the hypocrisy of the ACT Government. Sigh. Or is it a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Kangaroos are killed every year in Mulligans Flat ‘sanctuary’. Wallabies too.
Beginning tonight, the ACT government's shooters will go into reserves and sanctuaries such as this and blast away at peaceful, innocent eastern grey kangaroos...3,633 is their target this year. They never mention the joeys who will be bashed to death or decapitated...it's all so HUMANE they claim. 💔🦘💔
