The Cattle Australia team joined forces in Brisbane with AgForce Queensland and the National Farmers' Federation in tackling the challenges of the Government’s changes to the EPBC laws in a meeting with senior representatives from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water.
Ivar Bisseling, CA’s Director of Policy and Strategy, and Dr Melissa Wales, Policy Officer Environment and Sustainability, advocated for clarity and consistency for producers, and ensuring that the short-, medium- and long-term goals of the EPBC Act reforms are workable on the ground.
It’s critical that any changes must first ensure the profitability, productivity, and sustainability of Australian producers farming operations.
Key items of discussion included:
• Compliance mechanisms and the development of guidance materials
• Recognition of Queensland State Codes within the EPBC Act
• Mapping of Matters of National Environmental Significance, particularly within Qld’s ‘Category X’ areas
• Confirmation of new ‘Key Definitions’ introduced within the EPBC Act
• Environmental offsets
• Regrowth amendments, and
• Recognising positive environmental outcomes on farm.
EPBC Reform: Progressing practical outcomes for Queensland agriculture 🧑🌾
Today AgForce, Cattle Australia and National Farmers' Federation are hosting senior representatives from the Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water in Brisbane for a full day of critical engagement on EPBC reforms.
This isn’t just another meeting — it’s about making sure the rules shaping our landscapes actually work on the ground.
Right now, producers are facing real pressure. Rising costs, seasonal uncertainty, and evolving regulation are all hitting at once. The last thing agriculture needs is unclear, unviable policy that slows decisions, adds cost or disrupt essential farm and food security.
That’s why AgForce is at the table — representing Queensland producers and pushing for outcomes that are practical, workable and grounded in reality.
We are focused on:
✅ Delivering real, on-the-ground clarity for producers
✅ Ensuring existing State systems are recognised
✅ Making sure implementation supports both productivity and environmental outcomes
This is about getting EPBC reforms right — not just in principle, but in practice.
Farmers are at the frontline of sustainably managing and sustaining Australia’s landscapes and must be central to shaping the EPBC reforms.
