Reed avocados are a little different from the usual Hass, and well worth getting to know.
They’re big, round and beautifully creamy, with a rich, buttery flavour that’s slightly sweeter and more delicate than Hass. Their flesh stays green when ripe too, rather than darkening along with the skin.
That smooth, creamy texture makes Reeds brilliant smashed on toast, sliced through salads, turned into guacamole or simply eaten with a little salt and lemon. And because there’s plenty of flesh in each one, a single Reed goes a surprisingly long way.
If you normally reach straight for a Hass, give a Reed a go next time you’re at Trugolds, you might find a new favourite.
