Hey Fam,
The past month has been nothing short of stressful & full of uncertainty.
Initially, when our post was put up we had a local farmer/competitor show promising interest in our business, after viewing the premises and equipment, they decided our business wasn’t worth what we were asking and they only wanted to use the premises for the production of their bulk meat, and not open to the public. This went against our values and vision for the town, a hard no from us, so we let that option go.
Fast forward to last week & our lease expiry was fast approaching. We had decided to start packing up when we were messaged by another local couple willing to chat about the business. They promptly visited our store to check it out and decided they were going to give it a red hot go, talk about saving the day at the last minute! So our excitement grew, our business was actually going to continue, and our local community would still have access to their local butcher 🥳 win-win!!
Then, Wednesday evening I received a message from the original local farmer/competitor, offering us a measly sum for our business and the entirety of our equipment, to which I harshly declined, and advised them of our buyer and the intent they had for the future of our business. This local farmer smugly declared they would open up shop next to Colroys as a competitor, opening doors to the public, which I wished them good luck with the setup and shire approvals.
TJ was advised of the messages exchanged and rightly got angry & frustrated. Unfortunately, the next morning TJ had another seizure at home (a direct result of the harassment received the night before). He spent the next 2 days in hospital being monitored and medicated.
While TJ was still being cared for in the ED, i received yet another message from the original local buyer, claiming they have put in an offer on the building, I promptly made contact with the real estate to confirm if there was any truth to his claims, which i was advised was untrue. The building is still under offer, pending the sale which is likely to go through this week. I did not reply to the original buyer given I was dealing with TJ in the hospital and it only made my stress levels rise. I then received ANOTHER message from these grubs declaring they had put the offer in and that they were going to be taking over “one way or another”. 😳
It is clear to me they waited until the last minute, to put in a low ball offer in hopes we would just hand our business and customers to them and walk away. How disgusting that someone would try to blatantly steal our business & take advantage of us during the worst time of our lives to benefit themselves? Thats who these people are, greedy, manipulative, unethical in every way, pieces of 💩. The way they have tried to bully us out of our own business and blatant attempted theft of our customers shows in spades the type of people these w@nkers are. Theres a good chance you know of/have heard of these people, they have advertised on our local capel pages often over the past year trying to steal our customers, some have ventured their way, only to return complaining about the quality they received. So without naming names, it shouldn’t be too hard for you to figure out who has just tried to do this to us.
Why am I airing the dirty laundry? Because we have loyalty to our customers & community and truely have your best interests in mind. People need to realise they can’t just do s**t like this and get away with it. We’ve been walked over enough. Not everyone in business is nice behind the smile. Some only see you as walking currency. We’ve learnt the hard way over the years.
Even though we have a buyer for our business, we are still facing uncertainty surrounding a lease going forward for them, it’s currently a waiting game. It’s terrifying, stressful and heartbreaking that the stream of constant 💩 we are dealt, continues to plague us.
We will continue to fight, while feeling extremely anxious and overwhelmed for the future of our business and most importantly the future of the local butcher shop within Capel. A place we have dedicated the last 5 years of our lives to for the benefit of our community.
