Hey Fam,

The past month has been nothing short of stressful & full of uncertainty.

Initially, when our post was put up we had a local farmer/competitor show promising interest in our business, after viewing the premises and equipment, they decided our business wasn’t worth what we were asking and they only wanted to use the premises for the production of their bulk meat, and not open to the public. This went against our values and vision for the town, a hard no from us, so we let that option go.
Fast forward to last week & our lease expiry was fast approaching. We had decided to start packing up when we were messaged by another local couple willing to chat about the business. They promptly visited our store to check it out and decided they were going to give it a red hot go, talk about saving the day at the last minute! So our excitement grew, our business was actually going to continue, and our local community would still have access to their local butcher 🥳 win-win!!
Then, Wednesday evening I received a message from the original local farmer/competitor, offering us a measly sum for our business and the entirety of our equipment, to which I harshly declined, and advised them of our buyer and the intent they had for the future of our business. This local farmer smugly declared they would open up shop next to Colroys as a competitor, opening doors to the public, which I wished them good luck with the setup and shire approvals.

TJ was advised of the messages exchanged and rightly got angry & frustrated. Unfortunately, the next morning TJ had another seizure at home (a direct result of the harassment received the night before). He spent the next 2 days in hospital being monitored and medicated.

While TJ was still being cared for in the ED, i received yet another message from the original local buyer, claiming they have put in an offer on the building, I promptly made contact with the real estate to confirm if there was any truth to his claims, which i was advised was untrue. The building is still under offer, pending the sale which is likely to go through this week. I did not reply to the original buyer given I was dealing with TJ in the hospital and it only made my stress levels rise. I then received ANOTHER message from these grubs declaring they had put the offer in and that they were going to be taking over “one way or another”. 😳
It is clear to me they waited until the last minute, to put in a low ball offer in hopes we would just hand our business and customers to them and walk away. How disgusting that someone would try to blatantly steal our business & take advantage of us during the worst time of our lives to benefit themselves? Thats who these people are, greedy, manipulative, unethical in every way, pieces of 💩. The way they have tried to bully us out of our own business and blatant attempted theft of our customers shows in spades the type of people these w@nkers are. Theres a good chance you know of/have heard of these people, they have advertised on our local capel pages often over the past year trying to steal our customers, some have ventured their way, only to return complaining about the quality they received. So without naming names, it shouldn’t be too hard for you to figure out who has just tried to do this to us.

Why am I airing the dirty laundry? Because we have loyalty to our customers & community and truely have your best interests in mind. People need to realise they can’t just do s**t like this and get away with it. We’ve been walked over enough. Not everyone in business is nice behind the smile. Some only see you as walking currency. We’ve learnt the hard way over the years.

Even though we have a buyer for our business, we are still facing uncertainty surrounding a lease going forward for them, it’s currently a waiting game. It’s terrifying, stressful and heartbreaking that the stream of constant 💩 we are dealt, continues to plague us.
We will continue to fight, while feeling extremely anxious and overwhelmed for the future of our business and most importantly the future of the local butcher shop within Capel. A place we have dedicated the last 5 years of our lives to for the benefit of our community.

Hannah, TJ, Benny & Sophie ♥️

We will be open tomorrow 8:30am -10:30am.

Stock is limited to gourmet sausages, steaks & a few other options.

This looks set to possibly be our final day of trading at this stage, with fridges, freezers, display cabinets, slow cookers and stainless steel benches getting sorted for sale, if you’re interested in any of those items or know someone who may be, definitely spread the word. We are open to offers.

We are not ready to part with any of our main butchering equipment yet, but will advise when we are.

So if you’re wanting to grab some of the last of TJs Family Butchers Gourmet sausages, drop in tomorrow morning, strictly no early birds, we will need time to get organised.

See you tomorrow 8:30am - 10:30am

Hey everyone,

We are so overwhelmed by the amount of love & support we as a family & business have received, it’s honestly unbelievable how many people have reached out with offers of assistance, and we apologise for not getting back to you all as of yet, there’s just so many messages! 🥹

A little update: TJ is home, resting & recovering. In true TJ fashion, he just wants to get up & go, but is constantly reminded he needs to take the time to relax! Its been an adjustment for us all, but we are confident we will come out the other side.

We have managed to have a few “pop up” open days with the shop, we thought it was best not to advertise so we could stretch the stock out so more people had the chance to get their hands on our yummy produce.

We will be open tomorrow, Friday 17th 1pm - 4:30pm, if you wish to come in to make a purchase, stock is extremely limited, what you see is what is left. No orders or meat packs are available at this time.

Our beautiful friends are running the show for us while we sort things out behind the scenes, so please offer them the same grace as you would if it were us, they truely are going the extra mile for us & our customers.

We honestly can’t thank our customers, supporters & wonderful community enough for the support during this incredibly difficult time.

Stay tuned for further updates as things progress.

Thankyou!
Hannah, TJ, Benny & Sophie xx

UPDATE
Firstly, thank you to each & every one of you who have commented, called, messaged, offered help etc, it has been very overwhelming & unexpected to see how many people are here & willing to support us in whatever capacity we need ♥️🥹

Our guy is finally awake, and has made slow improvements, which is to be expected. He’s on the long road to recovery & we are hoping for some answers soon. He is extremely emotional with the outpouring of love shown for him, he definitely did not expect many (if any) to be so concerned for him.
It has been a very heartwarming experience for our old boy, and he’s only managed to read a couple of messages, before the tears completely take over. ♥️

So far, the plan with the shop is to get a batch of TJ’s famous Tasty Patties and BBQ snaggas made over the weekend and open early next week to start moving the remaining stock out. I will keep you posted! ♥️

Hey Fam.

Hannah here. I have some not so great news to share.

Our Good Friday ended on a not so great note. Our main man, TJ, suffered from a severe seizure at home, traumatic for all doesn’t even begin to cover it, after being conveyed to the hospital, a few hours later he suffered another severe seizure, worse than the first. He was tended to, rather meticulously, by the ED team at Bunbury Regional, their efforts are not to be faulted.
What followed was a traumatic couple of hours, it was evident it was not working for TJ, it was decided he be sedated so his brain could begin to heal.

At the time of this post being published, TJ is still under sedation. It is unclear what has caused this to happen so randomly. Apart from suffering from non stop extreme stress for the past 3+ years, which can certainly cause this, we have no solid answers yet. The body has certainly got a way of telling you when enough is enough. We hear it loud and clear now.

While I am still awaiting our main man to come out of his deep sleep, questions have been asked regarding what we can expect in the following weeks, while its still unclear how TJ will be when he wakes, we know for sure it will take him a good couple of months to recover.
He can no longer drive a vehicle for a while, and the same goes for using heavy machinery such as a bandsaw (and everything else).

With that said, it is with utter devastation, that I announce the heartbreaking decision has been made to shut our doors for good. We are heartbroken to have to say goodbye to all of our beautiful customers and community so soon & so unexpectedly, you guys have been the force keeping us going for so long, and the foundation of our business. We will miss you all profusely.
We really do love our job & loved providing our community with a service like no other. We must remember our motto of “everything happens for a reason” and just hope the reason out-ways the unknown financial consequences sure to arise from such an abrupt closure.

We still have loose ends to tie up, stock to clear out, equipment for sale and debt to cover, so I will figure out the best day to get back in there to open up and sell off whats left, the freezers have got loads of stock in them along with a few fresh cuts, it’s all gotta go. No stock will be purchased going forward, so once it’s gone it’s gone. I will let you know when we will be open after I have discussed with our amazingly supportive army of helpers.

Customers with pre-existing orders will be contacted individually, but for now I just wanted to get this information out there.

I’m so sorry guys, we really didn’t want to bail, TJ had hoped a nice break would give him the reset he needed to continue on, his passion for our business & life in general may have been under question from the outset, but if you know TJ, you know he loves butchering and never faltered with the quality he produced, not even on his darkest days. He still showed up everyday and did what he had to do. And who knows what the future may hold, he may get back in the game in a different capacity later down the track, but for now, it’s time to take care of him & his health. Please keep TJ in your thoughts/prayers, I am confident we can navigate our way through this with our amazing support system.
If you’re interested in helping empty out the shop in the coming weeks, heavy lifting will be involved, let me know.
I’m also scouting for second hand sea containers to store the majority of our shop fit out.
If there’s any butcher’s out there serious about buying the business running, time is limited and open to offers.

I will do my best to keep you all updated on TJ’s progress.

Thanks for your support ♥️
Hannah, TJ, Benny & Sophie

Summer Trading Hours 2026!

The weekend trading has been a hit so far with a noticeable drop off after 2pm, so we’ve adjusted our hours so we can enjoy a tiny 🤏 bit of the weekend with everyone else!

Thankyou to all of our wonderful customers who have & continue to support us on the rollercoaster that is small business in a small town. Especially to the people who have taken the time to get to know us, supporting us for seeing us as humans, not just people serving you behind a counter.
The past 5 years have been ones for the books, we have certainly been through it & been dealt more than our fair share. So thankyou, if it weren’t for you guys, we would have packed up and moved on long ago.

We’re back from a nice little break at home for 4 days, which was definitely not long enough 😅
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed your time with family & friends & the feastivities that come with this time of year ♥️

We’ve had alot of wonderful feedback from you all about the delicious meats we worked tirelessly to provide, thank you! It definitely warms our hearts to know the sleepless nights and sacrifices were worth it ♥️
Thank you to everyone who supported us, especially our army of friends and family who stepped in and helped in any way they could, taking the load off our plates, assisting with Benny & Sophie, that alone gave us the clarity and sanity to get through the mad rush, you guys are appreciated more than you know 🥹
Our Staff (they’re more like family than employees) were phenomenal in the lead up and throughout the madness, they went above and beyond and made everything so much easier, streamlining the whole process, it was our most organised & least stressful Christmas period by far. Thankyou Taj, Tayla, Deb, Cam & Ev 😘

We have made an adjustment to previously advertised trading hours for the silly season, as much as we would love to have another 4 days off over New Years, it’s unrealistic in our industry, dealing with perishables certainly makes it harder to predict what to have available & it usually means having to freeze things way before needing to due to being closed for so long, and being the people we are, we simply cannot justify selling frozen meat (fresh or not) at the same price as fresh. It just opens the door to large loss of sales for us, and every cent counts to keep those bills at bay 😬 and with our industry already under immense pressure given the constant price rises with meat, we need to make the sales on the fresh stuff to stay afloat 😮‍💨

So, checkout our trading hours below for the following week, and continue to support local, support butchers, support our industry, before its too late and your only option is to buy mass produced meat from the big chains or risk it with “farm to fridge” meat thats way overpriced & no better than what us small butcher shops supply.
You wouldn’t trust a mechanic to tell you which shoes to wear, or a real estate agent to sell you a car. You CAN trust your local butcher, the actual expert in meat.
Don’t commit to overpriced meat in a box you can’t see until it arrives and its too late, we can bet your bottom dollar if you weren’t happy with your purchase, you’d be to blame as you clearly don’t know what “real farm meat tastes like” & there would be no refunds. Shop smart people.
Step into our meat paradise where you CHOOSE what you spend your hard earned dollars on, not what you are given in a box and have no control over. 😉

It’s Christmas Eve 🤯 which means it’s your last day to stock up on those last minute goodies before we shut the doors for 4 DAYS! 🥳 how exciting and stressful at the same time 😅 IYKYK!

Our little shop has been buzzing like a hive, non stop for the lead up to Christmas, the support has been overwhelming ♥️
You’ve all kept us that busy that we haven’t had a chance to announce the arrival of

🦈 Bronze Whaler

There’s only 3 more days until Christmas & we are officially in the thick of it, busting those orders out left, right and centre! 💥
With over 250 to prepare over the past week, and continuing over the next 3 days, it’s safe to say we are working our butts off to ensure every single request is met 😅 all while assisting all of our wonderful customers visiting throughout the day. It’s been crazy busy and challenging with the boss baby Sophie in tow, the many late nights and early mornings, the endless work weeks, but it’s not our first rodeo - we got this! 💪😜

Our Trading Hours are a bit all over the show this festive season, it’s even a struggle for us to keep up 😂 here’s our plan:

MONDAY 22nd & Tues 23rd - 9am - 5pm
(YES! Open tomorrow!!)
Wed - Xmas Eve - 9am - 3pm! Early close!
Thurs 25th - SUNDAY 28th - CLOSED
MONDAY 29th - Wed 31st - 9am - 5pm
Thurs 1st - SUNDAY 4th - CLOSED

We are undecided on whether to reopen Monday 5th or Tuesday 6th (will keep you posted), as we will continue with Tues - Sunday trading throughout January, & possibly February 2026.

If you’re planning on paying us a visit over the next 3 days, we ask that you call ahead (we will do our best to answer every call or call you back) if you plan on bulk buying.
While we do have plenty to go around, it will certainly make it easier for us and save you the wait, TJ is essentially operating solo this season, while smashing out the massive list of handmade christmas orders along with maintaining the stock in our displays, safe to say he’s a very busy butcher 🫣 😅

As the past 4 christmas’s have shown us, it’s the next 3 days when the craziness is at it’s peak, we greatly appreciate your consideration and patience with our amazing team during our busiest (and most stressful) time of the year.
We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Thank you ♥️
