Increased lamb numbers, improved quality and stronger buyer competition drove a dearer market across lambs and mutton this week.

Around 3,000 new season lambs were yarded, with quality improved across the trade and heavy grades.
๐Ÿ”น Trade lambs were $5โ€“$11/head dearer, with heavy trade lambs selling to $303/head.
๐Ÿ”น Heavy new season lambs sold to $318/head, while extra heavies reached $370/head.
๐Ÿ”น Lighter lambs sold to restockers from $130 to $238/head.

Numbers continued to rise, with fair to good quality across the yarding. There was a good supply of feeders, more tail-end cattle and improved numbers of trade cattle, along with reasonable runs of prime grown steers and heifers.
Around 400 good-quality cows were penned, alongside a larger offering of heavy bulls. The market generally strengthened, with grown cattle to processors the main exception.

Weaner steers reached 619c/kg, while heifers sold to 538c/kg.
Medium weight feeder steers lifted 15c/kg, reaching 608c/kg. Heavy feeder steers remained firm, selling to 553c/kg.
Feeder heifers also gained 15c/kg across medium and heavy weights, reaching 522c/kg.

Trade cattle lifted around 3c/kg, with trade heifers selling to 500c/kg.
Grown steers and bullocks eased 20c/kg, giving back last week's gains, but still reached 490c/kg. Prime and heavy grown heifers slipped 6โ€“10c/kg, selling to 490c/kg.

Heavy cows sold up to 10c/kg stronger, with the secondary heavy cows showing the biggest gains and reaching 428c/kg.
A strong run of heavy B-muscled bulls also impressed, with the best reaching 458c/kg.

Lamb numbers eased slightly, with quality a little behind last week. A total of 2,650 new season lambs were yarded, mostly trade weights, with limited heavy lambs and a good supply of store lambs.
All buyers were operating, providing solid competition and helping the market hold around firm.

Heavy trade lambs weighing 23โ€“24kg sold to $290/head, while lighter lambs to restockers ranged from $161 to $220/head. Heavier lines reached $325/head.
