Rathdowne Cellars is an independant, family owned business, specialising in premium wine, beer & spirits with an emphasis on well trained staff. Rathdowne Cellars has been trading in North Carlton since the early 1900's, and since 1991 under the ownership of the Kidd family.

SATURDAY TASTING | Robert Weil

Join us this Saturday 12/8 from 3-5pm to taste a selection of new and cellared releases from Robert Weil.

You’ll find the Rheingau sitting on the northern bank of the Rhine, on some the most splendid hills on earth.One such hill is that of Kiedricher-Berg, where Weingut Robert Weil has spent four generations crafting some of the finest Riesling on earth. Here you’ll find a rich combination of slate soils, combined with steep slopes (up to 60% inclination) and glorious south-eastern exposure. The perfect recipe for one of the Rheingau’s very finest wineries.

We’ll be joined by Julius Paetzold, export manager for the winery and expert on all things Robert Weil.

STAFF PICK | Cantina Produttori Carema Produttori di Carema Nebbiolo 2021

Our newest member of the team, Emile, has picked this Alpine Nebbiolo from the tiny cru of Carema, located just at the edge of Valle d’Aosta. He insisted we grab this one, telling us that Carema’s Nebbiolo “epitomises balance and delicacy in the variety, with high-toned perfume and firm, fine tannins that conjure up a brisk Alpine breeze across the palate.”

JUST IN | Leone de Castris Il Lemos Susumaniello

A rare bottling of the Salento native variety Susumaniello, a grape on the brink of extinction. It’s thought to be named for the Salentino phrase “Susu lu somariellu!”, or “Run, donkey!”, as a nod to the grape’s hardy vine and steady productivity even in a difficult vintage. The best examples, such as this offering from Leone de Castris, have bright high-toned red notes up front, over dark, plush palates and a whisper of clove and licorice spice.
