We opened three special new releases by at last week, before tasting them over six days. Extra-long finishes, structure, tension and balance characterise each wine.

2023 QUARMARÌ PECORINO

With astounding depth, presence and power, this mineral-soaked Pecorino is unlike anything we’ve seen from Italy. A world-class, textural white wine of purity, and precision. Elite.

2022 COLLE VOTA

Immense wine. Dark, structured, staining and deeply mineral, it refused to speak for several days before finally unfurling. Perfumed, crystalline and detailed, this is Montepulciano from another dimension. Give Colle Vota time – the reward will be huge.

2022 ARCHIVIO

The same story here: we were not on speaking terms for days. Vertical, deep-purple and sublimely mineral, you can feel the greatness in its structure and intensity. Like Colle Vota, this beauty needs time. It’s a marvel to watch Archivio take its place among Italy’s great red wines.

Etna Rosato by

100% Nerello Mascalese from 30-100 year old vines grown organically in contrada Feudo Pignatone, Randazzo. Barrel fermented and aged in oak and stainless steel, this is a beauty – peachy, generous and aromatically spacious, there’s grounding minerals and tension on the palate that keeps you coming back for more 🌋

’s Soave Classico is back. 🤍

Frighteningly refreshing — precise, racy and pure, with crisp citrus, beeswax, white flowers and sizzling acidity. Silky-textured with proper concentration and a long, clean finish of Italian almond bitterness. Outstanding Soave. Brava, Laura.

Something new from the south of France. 🌿

 — organic, small-batch, made the slow way. A traditional wood-fired copper still and just the right botanicals for purity, freshness and balance.

is a captivating voice from Milo on Mount Etna’s eastern flank — and their 2024s are special. Three Etna Bianco Superiore wines made with 100% Carricante, a sultry Catarratto, and a savoury, structured rosato announce Maugeri as one of Italian fine wine’s most exciting new names. 🌋

Congratulations Renato, , Paola, Michela, with special thanks to and .Falsini.

This designation is reserved for wines that combine the highest quality with strong territorial identity and tiny production. Limite 2023 is exemplary — an intensely characterful Cabernet Franc from a 3 hectare vineyard of alluvial limestone soils, vinified with 30% whole bunches and aged 10 months in small oak barrels.

Classic blackcurrant leaf and roasted coffee give way to dark, concentrated fruit packed with Mediterranean herbs and graphite. Beautiful texture, freshness and very fine tannins — highly skilled winemaking leaves everything in perfect equilibrium. Loire-like freshness meets Tuscan warmth.

Bravo, .Falsini

Something special: Chianti Classico 2021

From ‘Vigna del Casino’ in Radda — a single one-hectare plot in iron-rich Galestro soil, yielding just 25 quintali per hectare (roughly half the appellation average). Pure Sangiovese. Certified organic.

Walter Speller (Jancis Robinson) called it: “A stunning wine.” We agree.
