It is time for a rest...

The garden is going to rest, although the hazelnuts are still a bit confused, and so it is time for me to have a rest...

I am having a break from the farm and taking my first holiday in three years, my first holiday since leaving my corporate job...

This means a much needed break from social media too...

See you all on the other side

On Saturday, I had the second working bee at the farm...

Thank you to the amazing 6 people who gave up a couple of hours on their Saturday morning to help w**d in the growing paddock...

We all agreed there is nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you have finished w**ding a section...

The sun was shining, we chatted as w**ded and finished off with a lunch made from farm produce on the deck

I have been enjoying the working bees and I think everyone else has been too, so I have decided to continue holding them on a monthly basis going forward...

Stay tuned for further information...

To help me catch up with things on the farm, there is another working bee planned:

Saturday 16 May 10am - 12pm

Come along and meet some other people, whilst we w**d or do other gardening jobs.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

To help me organise food and refreshments, if you are able to come along and help, please register at 5acrefarmtaradale.com.au/events

Have you ever thought about natives vs non-natives?

I say why limit yourself and why not enjoy both natives and non-natives...

As I walked back up the driveway, lined with gum trees and Chinese pistachio, i thought this was the perfect example of the benefits of having both natives and non-natives..

One caveat to this thinking is, ensure that whatever you plant it is not invasive and likely to takeover any other plant...

Last night was the first event held at the farm...

A huddle by the fire led by Jade Miles from Black Barn Farm

Once the fire was under control, we settled in for chats about the world we live, how we can stay more connected; the tension between wanting to live your life a certain way but being pulled in other directions, like sitting on a fence with the post up your bum, it is uncomfortable; the importance of ritual...

I managed just a few photos, wanting to stay present in the moment and listen to the conversation...

Whilst there was a little wind, it eventually settled and the rain held off until we were finished eating our pumpkin soup and poached quince in the dark, the moon covered in cloud...

The memories of the evening will linger for a bit longer with a house filled with flowers, left over pumpkin soup (made from pumpkins grown on the farm, of course) and quince syrup...

And my thinking about what community looks like for me will continue...Maybe a pot luck lunch or dinner once a month, a working bee once a month or a regular crafternoon at the farm...Would love to hear your thoughts on this...

Thank you so much to Jade for guiding us in these conversations and sharing her beautiful story and the heartfelt life she lives...

If you want to learn more on how you can create community and togetherness, Jade's books are a great place to start, Futuresteading being the first and Huddle being the latest book.
