Dehorning.

Everyone has an opinion on whether it’s necessary or not, but for our dairy, we do it because it’s safer for our people who work closely with our cows every day, and it’s safer for the other cows in the herd too.

But having a hot iron burn out the sensitive horn tissue while our animals are conscious? No thank you.

So our babies get:

✅ sedation to reduce anxiety and pain

✅ a nerve block to numb the area around the horn

✅ injectable pain relief for ongoing pain management for 24 hours after they wake up

✅ topical numbing spray (tri-solfen) after the procedure

The sedation is reversed and they get back on their feet and start eating as if nothing happened. ❤️

We are hiring!

Henty Brook Dairy is seeking an enthusiastic, kind person for part time work on the farm. Approximately 15 hours per week but can vary to suit the right person.

We are :

🐂 a working dairy with a strong emphasis on animal welfare and the production of high quality milk

🐂supportive of your goals and offer flexible hours with understanding of family/life commitments

You are:

✳️a kind and compassionate person who likes working with animals

✳️ good at working in a team

✳️ interested in the Dairy industry, but not necessarily experienced. We will provide comprehensive training

✳️ Prepared to learn about the Dairy industry and attend Dairy Australia training workshops

✳️ Ideally living within a short distance of the farm in Burekup as shifts are quite short (2 - 3 hours generally)

Role involves:

Milking our mixed herd of jersey, Guernsey and Friesian cows (including setting up the dairy and cleaning up/ hosing down afterwards). Yes - this will involve some early starts (5:30 am) but not every morning - plus some afternoon milkings depending on what works best for you and the other team members.

Feeding and caring for calves. It’s not all cute eyelashes and cuddles (although there is plenty of that). Lots of slobber and poo as well! Some lifting of heavy buckets of milk is required.

Occasional general farm work (if you want to but not essential).

Please message the page for more information if interested.
