Ever flip over a food packet and feel like you need a science degree to understand it? 😅
Between the fine print, percentages, numbers, and buzzwords - it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed.
Sometimes we grab what looks healthy, only to find ourselves wondering what half the ingredients actually are. And other times, we just don’t have the time or energy to think about it.
Food labels were not designed to be friendly - but getting curious about what’s inside the things we eat can be a quiet act of self-care.
In Australia, every packaged food must include a Nutrition Information Panel and an Ingredients List, and these two sections can tell you a lot once you know what to look for.
Here are a few things you might notice:
🔹 Ingredients are listed in order: the first one makes up the most of the product.
🔹 ‘Per 100g’ vs. ‘Per serve’: helpful if you want to compare similar products.
🔹 Added sugars and sodium can pop up in surprising places.
You don’t need to decode every number - just small awareness over time can help you feel more informed and connected to your choices.
💬 What do you usually look at first on a food label OR do you skip them entirely?
