π Join us on our ALPACA FARM in central Victoria, 1 hour north-west of Melbourne π».
π‘ We're a household of two adults on a chemical-free 58-acre property. We incorporate holistic grazing management, regenerative farming and permaculture practices.
We're looking for a couple of volunteers to help with daily tasks around our farm, this could include:
π¦alpaca husbandry: feeding, moving to new paddocks, help setting up semi-permanent fencing, weaning, handling, halter-training.
π sheep care: feeding, checking troughs, husbandry
ππ poultry: cleaning quail aviary and chook house, feeding, collecting eggs
πͺ± hot-composting once a week
π³ orchard maintenance: fixing irrigation system, netting, planting new trees, fabricating tree guards
π regerative landcare: planting seedling and tubestock, watering, establishing windbreaks, silvo pasture, dam restoration, propagating plants, keyline ripping,
π general farm tasks such as fencing, moving troughs, building holding pens, adding gates, cutting firewood, tidying laneways, adding guttering to barn and connecting to water tank etc.
We would love to welcome 1-2 people (either a couple or friends who share accommodation) who embrace nature and outdoor tasks, don't mind getting hands-on, love animals and behave gently around them.
We also have 3 big dogs and 2 cats π πΆ so ideally, our volunteers wouldn't mind the occasional slobber and cuddles.
π Accommodation options:
A) lovely separate cottage with bathroom and kitchen or if you prefer
B) you can select a space for your own camper /caravan either on top of a hill with 360 degree views or closer to the cottage where you can access bathroom and power or anywhere on the farm or
C) if you'd like to be more connected to our household, pets and us, we have a double bedroom with own bathroom and a second room as a study/ yoga room for guests.
Accommodation would be in exchange for approx. 2 hours of volunteering per day per person. This does not have to be daily, but should accumulate to about 14 hours per week per person e.g two days of 7 hours and the rest of the week off or a few hours here and there but equally ok to spread across the week.
We're located 10 minutes out of Castlemaine which is a vibrant hub of agriculture / viticulture and tourism ππ
There are hourly train services into Melbourne and Bendigo, hiking, mountain biking, fossicking, and quirky towns all around the area but you need your own car to get to our place.
Start around mid to end June and minimum commitment 2 weeks but preferably around 4 weeks.
