These are just some of our grow outs from Sunny’s time with the Buff Ladies, and we’re excited to see the changes in our next generation with Spike’s offspring! 🐓

We also have some bought-in Silver Laced growing out. While they’re lacking beards, we have more on the way to help shape a new Silver Laced breeding pen for next season.

Watching them develop is teaching me so much about selecting next year’s breeding pens. I’m seeing traits I love, along with faults I’d like to improve, and that’s okay!

Some breeders spend 10+ years developing their lines. It’s all about patience, learning and improving with each generation.

Check out this little Marans pullet! 🐔

She came from a mixed Marans pen, and I’m loving watching her grow out.

I’m definitely a straight-run kind of girl. I enjoy running colours from within the same colour family together—for example, black/blue/splash/white or buff/gold/reds.

This little girl came from a Black Tailed Red Marans rooster over Black Tailed Red Marans, Blue Copper Marans and Black Copper Marans hens.

And let me tell you… out of that dozen eggs, no two chicks looked the same! 😂

That’s the fun of buying eggs from a mixed pen—you never quite know what you’re going to get, and watching them feather out is always interesting.

I can’t wait to see what colour eggs she lays 🥚
