Penna Lane Wines

Penna Lane Wines Premium Estate Grown Wines from the famous Clare Valley, South Australia. The Penna Lane vineyard is recognised as one of the best in the Clare Valley.

Based on the philosophy that good wine is made in the vineyard, great care was taken with the original plantings and this level of vineyard rigour continues today. The estate grown varieties are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fiano. The grapes for Penna’s distinctive Riesling styles are also grown locally, within the Skilly Valley and Watervale sub-regions of the Clare Valley. The vines receive pr

otection from the harshest of the summer temperatures due to the altitude of the estate. Growing at an elevation of approximately 450 metres, the grapes benefit from a long, slow ripening period, which intensifies their flavour. Mostly dry grown, the vines are watered only during periods of extreme dryness. Trellising consists of a single fruiting wire and moveable foliage wires, which enable the shoots to be vertically positioned for better bunch exposure. This allows the grapes to achieve maximum ripeness and stronger flavour. The altitude, climate and soil structure of the vineyard combine to produce award winning wines that are worthy representatives of this beautiful region.

One day, in a vintage or two away, grapes like these will be all grown up and in a bottle like this.
Welcome to the first bunch of baby grapes picked from our very own home block of Riesling vines.
To date, these young vines have been eaten by deer and kangaroos and endured severe drought and frost.
They’re still standing. We’re looking forward to their first vintage. It will be mighty.

This is the story of a very patient man. John has been waiting 10 years to get his hands on his second bottle of Penna Lane Riesling. He first tried the wine in Adelaide when he came out to Australia for the Ashes Tour in 2013/14. Unable to find Penna Lane in the UK, his next contact with the brand was in 2019 when he was in New York with his nephew for the Jets versus Giants NFL game. He was in Juliana’s pizza restaurant in Brooklyn and a man sat down at the next table wearing a Penna Lane cap. John just had to speak to him. Turns out the man was Sam Auld who shared an office with Peter Treloar at the time. John and Sam shared details and we emailed John and let him know that he would be the first to hear once we had a UK distributor. Meanwhile, Peter took a Penna Lane cap over to the UK for John when he went in 2022 for a wedding. Fast forward to 2024 and we now have a UK distributor and John has a few bottles of Penna Lane Riesling. Huge thanks to Ben Harvey from for the happy ending to this tale that has now spanned 3 continents. We would also like to recognise John’s dedication to our brand and his patience. Cheers John!
