Spring arrived this morning.

The wattle doesn’t check a calendar but it’s hard to argue with the timing. Today is National Wattle Day, the first day of the Australian spring, and the start of Biodiversity Month. Thank you Carly Carly Green for the shot!

September is the month this place gets loud again. Nesting season. Flowering season. Koalas on the move.

This is why we plant trees.

On 23 July, a koala was spotted in our Koala Feed Tree plantation at Olivers, exactly where we hoped one would show up.

The sighting is now recorded with Friends of the Koala, and we’re rolling out the welcome mat: water troughs, safe crossings, and health monitoring to keep this visitor (and hopefully their friends) thriving.

121 bird species now call Banyula home.

The July survey by our partner at Wildbnb Wildlife Habitat and Byron Bird Buddies recorded 75 species in a single visit – including 7 brand-new arrivals like the Forest Kingfisher and Australian Boobook.

The highlight? An endangered Black-necked Stork gliding across two sites before landing at the wetlands. When threatened species choose your land, the land is doing something right.
